United States Supreme Court votes 6-3 that Donald Trump is immune from "j6" prosecution.

    So there's that.

I'm proud that Sonia Sotomayor was one of the dissenting votes.

In this crazy society of lost morals, no justice, and no accountability... I'm proud that it's one of my own saying it like it is.

Trump Minions might crow over this unfortunate decision... but the reality is that it's a sad day when someone is given a pass on his role in attempting an insurrection.

To be fair they've said presidents only now have immunity for their official actions, not their unofficial ones. And who is the ultimate arbiter over whether actions are official or not? The Supreme Court. Which means that Democratic presidents are going to find that even official acts previously allowed are now criminal and GOP presidents are going to be allowed to do anything they want including overthrow the fucking government.

The whole insurrection case is now fucked anyway. Just about every witness is somebody who worked for Trump in government or in his campaign. Trump being told by all of his staff from the Attorney general on down that he lost the election is now inadmissible. The fake electors scheme he cooked up with Jerrrey Clarke is now inadmissible. Weird how the Framers allowed for the prez to be impeached for high crimes but the current Supreme Court doesn't think that part of the constitution should apply anymore.

In the last few days the Supreme Court has legalised bribery, taken decisions about regulation and prosecution away from federal regulators and put judges (ultimately themselves) in charge of who gets regulated/prosecuted and how, and now this.

The mafia started as a bunch of guys who chose to liveoutside the law. Literal outlaws. In the last few days the Supreme Court has created a framework for a mafia government. Want some federal agency to buy your stuff/allow you to create an anticompetitive merger or a monopoly or pollute air or water or sell products or services previously banned or illegal? Just pay the Trump guy in charge of the agency or regulator. Everything up for sale with money kicked up the chain of command. And you're protected by the pardon power of a president whose official actions such as OKing a monopoly or merger or whatever are now immune from prosecution and whose pardon power is now unreviewable by the courts. America now has a framework for a mafia organisation to legally run America. This is not draining the swamp. This is going to make the swamp look like a puddle.

Getting rid of the law that let the government regulate business has been the biggest single aim of the conservative elite in America since the New Deal. Every single Supreme Court justice has been asked about stare decisis at their confirmation hearings, the idea that legal precedents like Roe versus Wade and the Chevron regulation law they just overturned are settled law and won't be overturned. And the one thing claimed about conservative judges is they never overturn settled law. And every conservative judge at their confirmation hearings said they'd abide by stare decisis and every fucking one of them lied under oath.

Dear readers, what was your favourite memory of democracy in America?

I hope you've got plenty of money saved for your retirement because ten years from now Social Security and Medicare won't exist.

This is why the justice system in the United States is overrated.

I like to use analogies once in a while... so I'm going to use one now.

Let's say I go to a candy store and shoplift a piece of candy. Then I go out into the street and murder someone in cold blood.

I go to trial and am found guilty of shoplifting. Yet I'm considered immune from being tried for murder.

This is the same crock of SHIT that has happened with Trump.

Seriously... who gives a flying FUKK about hush money to Stormy Daniels, in the grand scheme of things??

This orange-haired motherfukker attempted to steal a democratic election... urged his braindead, moronic followers to storm the Capitol... and sat on his thumbs while it was all happening.

So what happens?? He gets convicted for the Stormy Daniels case... but pronounced immune from charges on the INSURRECTION case.

No President, not Democrat not Republican or all of the above...should be allowed to use the power and influence of the oval office to pressure State election officials concerning election results and counts. End of. We do not have Kings and definitely should not kneel to one who views himself as such. But I guess that ship sailed long ago. Shame on us, the lot of us.

the shame is only on those playing the game & voting for someone to rule over themselves & to rule over others

This feels like December 12, 2000. The day the ruling came down in Bush v. Gore. Reminder that John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett were all on Bush's Florida-recount team. Reminder too of John Paul Stevens's prophetic dissent in that infamous case:

If I were Biden I’d declare a nationwide state of emergency and suspend the federal electoral process until further notice. Then lock up Trump for security’s sake. As long as he uses his office letterhead he’ll be immune from prosecution as far as the GOP justices are concerned.

First democracy in history to collapse under conditions of full employment and rapidly rising wages. If nothing else, the end of the American experiment will generate a lot of lively poli-sci debate over the dark century ahead.

Such a great original series for HBO. Right up there with Sopranos imo.

Those two and Breaking Bad are like the Holy Trinity of tv shows. Everything you watch after them is rubbish. The first series of True Detective is on a par but it's only about half a dozen episodes.
