    Default Explosive training ideas

What are your favorite ideas/methods/training to aid with explosive power? I typically have the boxers I work with do 20 mins or so of abs and exercises at the end of our training session. I coach 4 sessions a week, but my more experienced ones typically come 3 days a week. Since my boxers are juniors, I try to keep the sessions to no more than an hour and a half.

These are the exercises I normally include:
    1. Medicine ball throws. Single arm in Boxing stance and also twisting throws
    2. Squat jumps and box jumps
    3. Kettlebell swings and kettlebell squats.

3 sets each of varing reps.

And with abs, I prefer Russian twists (done properly), walking planks, exercises with feet evelated on a bit ball.

    Thoughts?

    What about cardio? That helps.

Last segment is devoted to this. We don’t sit around and eat popcorn for the other 60 mins...

What boxing stuff do you do? That is where you create/nurture punching ability.

Warm up with jump rope. Shadowboxing/footwork/technique work. Then bags/mitts.

One day we do sparring drills, and one day full sparring.

To finish, i add pylo work, and hence my question.

They are on their own for roadwork.

What you got them doing is great.

I would say power cleans but since they are juniors we can steer clear of that.

100% add sprint drills into the mix.

When I was training for sports the be all end all of getting dynamic explosive power was doing plyometrics.

Got to stretch out and warm up really good before those exercises.

Always liked using the mind against body parts (imaginary reverse push) against a super slow motion physical arm force moving into blocks and attacks while doing a whole form derived on a styles base movements.

I alternate between juggling dynamite and firing myself out of a cannon. Otherwise, @Master covered everything, as usual.

I am 75 years old and out of boxing, except to go by one of the gyms occasionally and watch. I enjoy reading people's ideas on new training methods. In fact, I go on YOUTUBE, and have coaches from around the world showing off new techniques. And that's what makes a good fighter or coach. I'm not saying ever thing new works, but in fact those new ideas have broght boxing a long way from chopping wood, pushing cars, and carrying pails of water running up and down hills and steps. Keep thinking folks. It may seem like a screwey idea to others, but if it works...it works.
