Seems the door's open for a rematch if Kov wants it.
Personally I'd prefer he take a confidence builder rather than an immediate rematch. He seems pretty stubborn so I think he'll go straight back in there.
At his age he may want to take the rematch and he could do a DeGale and win it straight back then give up the title to secure a bigger match.

    DeGale didn't get stopped.

Nearly did in the 5th but still an old shopworn fighter.

Kovalev is old. He needs to win a rematch and retire. His quest for greatness appears to be over. A kind of Kelly Pavlik ending.

Kovalev is going to enforce his immediate rematch clause with Alvarez.

Best option for him at his age. He wants to do a De Gale and win the immediate rematch.

Totally agree; Show that he can beat the guy, that the first lost ain't representative of what he can do, and if he wins, he could try that fight we all wanted to see against Stevenson and finally ride the sunset.

Yea I think it'll be competitive, he was winning the 1st until getting short circuited. Let's hope he's not gun shy.

Kovalev is near the end now. A rematch, maybe chase a fight with Stevenson, then retire. It has been an unfortunate situation with cheating judges and a cheating Ward and it no doubt left a heavy imprint on his mind. He tried to rebuild, got sloppy, got KO'ed. Simple as that. A couple more and then out. He's old enough and his stamina is not going to improve now.

I like the move. Kovalev is about done and without winning a rematch, he won’t get anywhere else. I think he can win if he gets his mind right. He may not be able to though.

Alvarez will hold the psychological advantage, Kov will need to correct his mistakes and improve his conditioning.

Reality in boxing is that most rematches end with the same result only quicker. So Kov has a massive physical and psychological mountain to climb.

Agree, but history doesn't always repeat.

I respect that he's going in all or nothing at this point. It's a totally winnable rematch and a slow drawn out rebuild does nothing for him. Sometimes a guy just needs to accept he is where he is going and there is no reclaiming youth. Gather your forces and step forward.

Yea I can understand rebuilding but at his age and ability I'm glad to see him getting straight back on the horse.
