Good article from James Dielhenn explaining how Loma got where he is today

Most fighters are a product of their environment but Vasyl Lomachenko was always destined for bigger things, writes James Dielhenn. He is the incarnation of a successful experiment dreamt up before he was even born.

Peek behind the Iron Curtain and you will find fighters whose backgrounds have shaped them, built them into what they have become. Gennady Golovkin, the Klitschko brothers and a slew of past and present Russian champions have a meanness and a stern disposition that their eastern Europe upbringings instilled. That manifests itself in the ring.

    But Lomachenko is different.....

Its true The mandatory angle is so weak as well, fuck knows how they work this stuff out. Easter amd barthelemy are fighting for the regular WBA title of course, so they couldnt be in line At a glance I dont think Id pick Crolla to beat anyone else in the top 10 of the WBAs rankings.

I'm wondering how much if any of the 24 rounds with with solid hand speed of Linares will help Crolla here. I just hope Loma doesn't start swiveling his hips again. He's getting to the point where he needs to find that serious challenge.

ESPN have a serious negotiating edge with Top Rank. I mean where else could Arum go? Haymon has hoovered up the free to air tv money. There are guys like Schafer trying to work every angle. There's the streaming thing which Top Rank have been saying for about a decade now that they would do themselves but for some reason they're not. ESPN should be in a position to demand better fights than this one and a lot of the fights they've been getting. I don't get this at all.

Is Sky showing the undercard for this?

on the website it says this

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Anthony Crolla : WBA and WBO lightweight titles

Staples Center, Los Angeles , Sky Sports Main Event (03:00), Sky Sports Action (03:00)
usually they list all the fights that will be on, I was gunna stay up for this and go right through to watch the F1 in the morning, I dunno if I can be fucked staying up that long just for one fight and no undercard

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Anthony Crolla: Glove controversy sparks row at weigh-in as Brit trainer demands check

A touch of mind games from Joe Gallagher, perhaps?

An unlikely dispute broke out at the weigh-in for Vasyl Lomachenko vs Anthony Crolla on Thursday.

The challenger’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed that trainer Joe Gallagher requested the champion’s gloves be weighed before the bout, as he believed they felt lighter than usual upon inspection.

Gallagher even brought his own set of the scales to resolve the matter, however the Ukrainian’s team were sceptical about using these as a means of measurement.

“Joe Gallagher felt that Lomachenko’s gloves were very light, so he wants them weighed,” Hearn told Sky Sports.

“They didn’t have a set of scales here to weigh the gloves, Joe Gallagher brought his own set of scales, which they didn’t want to particularly use.

“They said they’ll weigh them later and Joe wants to see them being weighed later.

“He’s well within his rights, in my opinion, to see that. They are a new brand of glove, so they’re not something that we’re particularly used to.

“Sometimes it’s just a little bit of mind games from camps just to make sure people are a little bit unsettled.

“Joe’s very good at that, but I think he’s got a point on this occasion and the commission here are outstanding, so we don’t see any problems.”

The gloves are supposed to be eight ounces and, if not, then Lomachenko will have to find an alternative pair.

Where was this undercard. Sounds like Mike Alvarado got smoked. Not to take the cheap shot, but it may be for the better. Espn+ has had 3 disconnects here so far.
