It's probably too late now but to clarify

Fighters who's careers were defined by a loss, but they got their monies worth out of that loss.

What about Maidana? Lost twice to Floyd back to back but laughed all the way to the bank on both occasions.

That may be how Maidana comes to be remembered, and he sure can dine out on those, but for me he can't be defined by them as the public service he did by beating Broner looms large in my memories.

    You are all cunts.

Broner is making a career out of his losses.

Hagler made a lot of people like him when he retired to Italy after his loss to Leonard and the bad scoring of one judge.

Similarly Wlad has got a lot more supporters and enhaced his legacy by getting knocked out by AJ.

Rocky Fielding seems to have got some support here as the next big thing after his performance against Canelo.

Am I going down the right lines here?

Meldrick Taylor crusher to Chavez? Never the same and always over shadows his prior masterpiece v McGirt.

As far as I understand the question, both Jeff Lacy and Meldrick Taylor have been said which I agree that both are definitely remembered for their specific loss than anything else they did in their careers.

To a lesser extent, I would say Hamed with Barrera. Although people do talk about Hamed’s career prior to his loss, he almost became defined by that loss in the sense that it proved what level a fighter he really was.

You silly cunt! Hagler, Hearns, Wlad ain’t dining out on their losses, they’re fucking legends. Broner whether we like him or not is a 3 weight (or is it 4??) World Champion.
We’re talking about people like Martin Murray and Paul Smith, who were the “shoulda, woulda, coulda” brigade. Gallant losers , but never won fuck all. Chisora dines out on all his fucking losses and Dave “boy” Green for his KO by SRL.

No you are wrong, it is not about that at all. Memphis tell him I am right and he is wrong.

Rocky Fielding will forever be the best title challenger who ever lived. If any contemporary talent receives an opportunity to prove themselves at an elite level, they might just say “I’m gunna go rocky fielding on this bitch”

    Good one, p4p.

Fielding was actually the sacrificial lamb defending champion, not the challenger..... but the rest of the post is well taken. How many stitches to sew up your torn cheek?

My cheeks are as safe as Canelo is from a fielding rematch.

Fielding was to Team Canelo what an underhand toss of a softball would look like to Barry Bonds.

You're right on, bizzare replies to a simple question :S

Chisora is the one that obviously comes to mind, his loss to vitali especially(I don't count helenius as that was robbery, even though that loss got him the title fight which provided some dinners), he fought vitali who tore his shoulder rotator cuff in the left arm early on and then went on to take a bit of a pounding from a one armed man.. And since then chisora has been dining out on various losses.. And probably still will for a few years yet

If we're talking defined by, Billy Conn? Maybe unfairly. Thought of John Mugabi earlier. Sturm was a great call. Edison Miranda.

    Anyone mention Zab yet?

Guy was all Bambi in there, but had Nady as an excuse to fall back on.

    McGregor?

Am I even on the right track with this topic?
