For the one or two baseball fans here............. @Spicoli
Is it just me? Or did this player just catch a foul ball down the right field line instead of "saving a home run"??
https://www.msn.com/en-us/video/vira...id=mailsignout
I watched it several times to be sure... but it's obvious the ball was nowhere near the home run fence. Instead, you can see the first baseman running into the picture as the right fielder flies over the fence to catch what would've just been a foul ball.
I always wondered what the actual U.S.-Mexico border looked like at the beach.... so I thought this was interesting. Couple of years old, but still interesting.
Ok, so a few questions/comments come to mind:
1. Who decided how far to extend the wall into the water?
2. Maintenance on that section of the wall must be hell. I wonder how many times it's needed a complete rebuild. Saltwater and wave action will do a number on that steel.
3. If a surfer plows right into the edge of the wall and dies... did he die in the U.S. or Mexico?
It's just kind of surreal seeing a video of that and listening to people who actually surf there.
THANKS! Gr8 topic, I used to keep up with strange news stories when i read this some years ago.

Flaming Mouse Burns Down Man's House
Published January 8, 2006
A mouse got its revenge against a homeowner who tried to dispose of it in a pile of burning leaves. The blazing creature ran back to the man's house and set it on fire.
Luciano Mares, 81, of Fort Sumner said he caught the mouse inside his house and wanted to get rid of it.
"I had some leaves burning outside, so I threw it in the fire, and the mouse was on fire and ran back at the house," Mares said from a motel room Saturday.
Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the burning mouse ran to just beneath a window, and the flames spread up from there and throughout the house.
No was hurt inside, but the home and everything in it was destroyed.
"I've seen numerous house fires," village Fire Department Capt. Jim Lyssy said, "but nothing as unique as this one."
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
Mouse helps keep shed squeaky clean
When screws and bits of metal started appearing in a bird feed container an infrared camera helped solve the mystery.
Steve Mckears, who lives in Severn Beach, near Bristol, said the problem started mid February when he found a screw in among the peanuts he was preparing for the birds.
He said he removed the screw but the next day there was "a load more in there".
After the objects kept returning he enlisted the help of a photographer who installed a motion-operated night vision camera.

To carry on the animal theme.
Alleged Russian spy whale is refusing to leave and seeking Norwegians’ devotion, authorities say

I'd bet the whale was just pretending to be friendly, so as to not arouse any suspicion. It knows that if captured, it could be tortured until it sings like a canary. Once back in Russia, the whale will receive the red carpet treatment. All the squid and octopus it can eat, and an unlimited supply of breeding mates.
German pigeon flashed by German camera goes viral
It was a quiet afternoon in Bocholt in western Germany when a pigeon broke the calm and the speed limit, flying down a residential street at 45km/h (28mph) in a 30km/h zone.
A mobile speed camera flashed as soon as the pigeon flew past.
Authorities in the town, a short distance from the Dutch border, published the picture last week, and it has since gone viral.
Under normal circumstances the penalty for speeding would be €25 (£21;$2.
The town said that even with a 3km/h margin allowed in speeding cases, the pigeon had been going 12km/h too fast and was "on a collision course with vehicles and pedestrians".
One local said it was clearly a racing pigeon, while another suggested an appropriate punishment would be community service as a carrier pigeon.
The Bocholt Facebook page said philosophically: "Whether and, above all, how the fast bird can and will pay its €25 on-the-spot fine remains to be seen."

Yep. This one definitely makes the cut.

Two patients contract HIV from ‘vampire facial’
Ok let me get this straight. Some people (mostly women I gather) purposely go some place where they subject themselves to considerable pain, where needles are repeatedly stuck in their faces to draw blood (like a tattoo, only more savage). This blood is then centrifuged and injected back into their faces, all in the name of beauty or less aging, or some shit like that. In the process, a couple of people have contracted HIV.
Hmm... I know this is the Strange News Thread, but there should be an offshoot called the Stupid Things People Do Thread. What in the name of f*ck are people going to come up with next?
This is a brilliant, honest and refreshing interview that you do not often get in life.
Nick Kyrgios brands Rafael Nadal 'salty' & Novak Djokovic 'cringeworthy' in podcast
He's never been one to hold back and now Nick Kyrgios has unleashed a volley of criticism against some of his fellow professionals in an unfiltered interview.
Speaking on the 'No Challenges Remaining' podcast, the 24-year-old branded Rafael Nadal "super salty" and called Novak Djokovic "cringeworthy".
In the 50-minute interview, Kyrgios called Roger Federer the "greatest of all time" but had less warm words for the Swiss' great rival Nadal.
"He's my polar opposite. Literally my polar opposite," Kyrgios said. "And he's super salty.
"When he wins it's fine, he won't say anything bad, he'll credit the opponent - 'he competed well today, he's a great player' - but then as soon as I beat him, it's just like 'he has no respect for me, my fans and no respect to the game'. I'm like 'what are you talking about? I literally played this way that I beat you the other previous times and nothing changed'.
"It's not a good look. And then Uncle Toni [Nadal's coach] came out saying 'he lacks education'. I'm like 'I did 12 years at school, you idiot. I'm very educated. I understand that you're upset I beat your family again'."
The contents of the podcast interview became public on Thursday, the same day Kyrgios was defaulted from the Italian Open after throwing a chair on to the court and walking off.
He was docked a game by the umpire for unsportsmanlike conduct, and as Kyrgios packed his bags and left, the umpire awarded the match to Norway's Casper Ruud early in the deciding set.
Kyrgios on Fernando Verdasco:
"Verdasco drives me nuts, man. It gets me so vexed, I'm like angry now that I just hear that name. He's the most arrogant person ever. He doesn't say hello, he thinks he's so good, he thinks he's God's gift. Dude, your backhand's pretty average and let's be honest, you hit a ball over a net.
"Guys like that, they drive me insane. There's no humility there, there's no perspective. It's just like 'I'm here, I'm so cool, I'm unbelievable because I hit a ball over the net. Do this for me, do this for me, I won't say hello to you, I'm too important'.
"Guys like that. See how angry I'm getting? It kills me."
Kyrgios on Novak Djokovic
"I just feel like he has a sick obsession with wanting to be liked. He just wants to be like Roger.
"For me personally, I don't care right now, I've come this far, I feel like he just wants to be liked so much that I just can't stand him.
"This whole celebration thing that he does after matches, it's like so cringeworthy. It's very cringeworthy.
"But he is a champion of the sport, one of the greatest you'll see.
"Djokjovic just rubs me the wrong way, always says what feels like he needs to say and never speaks his opinion."
Kyrgios on Andy Murray:
"I feel like his record against Djokovic is embarrassing, I've told him! I just feel like he's so much better than Novak, I've played them both, and I feel like Andy Murray returns better, he's harder to play against, I feel like his serve's better... I've told him 'you should have won so many more Grand Slams'.
"With Murray, he would have ticked all the boxes, it's just sad, it sucks not seeing him around here, in the locker room he was the best, always having bants and everybody was super friendly with him but he also had an opinion of some people too and he wasn't afraid to say things as well which I liked. He was just a lot of fun and I think the sport lost a good one there."

Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Kyrgios should stop beating around the bush and say what he really thinks.
