Default Do you agree with Ruiz’s demands?

    Mexican TV rights
Judges must have 40 championship fights experience
American commissioner to oversee the inexperienced Saudi representatives

I thought Ruiz would shoot for the moon after Eddie announced with no contract in place. Him and Al seem quite reasonable here to me.

A side note, begrudgingly, have to give props to Eddie for getting the deal done.

I am fine with his demands but he doesn’t have that much pull. So whatever he can get is great

Just agree for the fight to happen, whatever it takes. We do not care for the specific details just want them to be ready and give it their best with no excuses.

I wouldn't begrudge Ruiz squeezing every ounce out of the deal that he possibly can. Just as I wouldn't begrudge AJ making the initial deal and subsequent rematch deal as lopsided as he can in his favour. That's just common sense right? So long as it gets made.

Ron giving Eddie props. I'm a bit like AJ in the first fight. I might never recover from this

So everything Eddie said is true? The contract is bombproof. Ruiz (his team) have always been on board, they are simply playing the game, trying to squeeze a few more quid and iron out the small print?

Do you think the deal was finally sealed by the "experienced American commissioner" or the extra few million? ()

Well, considering my very first post on this matter in the 9 million/60 million thread is

“Let’s not be silly, if the IBF just granted him an exemption to fight Joshua then Ruiz is doing his proper paperwork. It’s evidence he intends to fight Joshua otherwise he wouldn’t bother filing with the IBF. Eddie, and more importantly the wildly inept DAZN people, need to step up and make the fight happen. They desperately need Ruiz, so pay like desperate people pay and everyone is happy”

I’d say it’s rather obvious I was dead on about this the whole time. And this is why, as a consistent person that doesn’t choose situations selectively, I gave Eddie his props for getting it done.

Well well well, seems I was too quick to give Eddie credit as he’s filed a lawsuit against Ruiz. Thought the dude did the right thing for once, gave him credit for it, then a day later Eddie gonna Eddie.

Oops.... not so fast. The lawsuit has been cancelled. Everything's honky dory for now. Stay tuned.

    Thoughts about the rematch clause:

If the rematch contract really dictated terms about Ruiz's cut for the rematch... as WELL as conditions on the "where"... I gotta hand it to AJ's people and dump on Ruiz's people.

True, prior to the fight hardly anyone gave Ruiz a snowball's chance in hell.

But the fact is he WON. Didn't Ruiz's people have the negotiating savvy to at least get more favorable terms in case he won??

TBH, contract terms in boxing mean as much to me as what type of cereal my neighbor eats for breakfast.

It's just strange to see the new CHAMPION have to scrounge around for decent money (compared to AJ).

This fight and how it is arrived at is starting to remind me of the current state of American politics. Just shut up please, all sides. Do your jobs. Why file a lawsuit after the fight is agreed to then cancel. After all of this drama if it ends in a draw I'm suing someone.

Sure, why not? I agree with either of the fighters demands, but that is never what matters in negotiating a fight. To be honest Im surprised there was such an iron clad rematch clause in place considering Ruiz was a late replacement hardly anyone gave a prayer of winning, but I guess thats good business. Therefore good for Ruiz squeezing and demanding anything he can out of this, as had there not been a rematch clause he’d obviously be in such a better position. He’s getting undersold and underpaid for this no matter what if you just base it on what each guy is currently worth and forget prior agreements. Im more bothered that Saudi Arabia isnt boycotted being the shithole that it is, but this isnt the place to get into that.

Yep I'd be demanding fucking everything if I was in ruiz shoes - heavyweight champion and being stiffed in a rematch deal. As I said on the other thread I didn't realise rematch clauses clarified purse deals. That's just fucking wrong in my book being worth less than the man you beat.

I wouldn't be happy fighting in Saudi Arabia either. Wonder how many Mexican / American / brits will travel to this one....

We're being too harsh on the Saudis.

I'm sure they'll pay spectators handsomely to cheer wildly, befitting a heavyweight championship fight. No knowledge of boxing needed.... just yell and scream and cheer your ass off whenever someone hits someone else. Laser shows and gaudy entrances? Please..... the Saudis have the money to put super-sized holograms up there of both fighters. Piped-in uproar sound will be expertly and seamlessly mixed in whenever there's an unexpected lull from the paid audience.

Saudi Arabia is a financial win for the fighters because the Saudis will not tax their purses. In either the US or the UK the visiting fighter would pay 30% off the top.

I believe it is part of the Federal tax rules, so yes. I don't know if individual states have similar taxes.
