in the first fight i remember robles instructing ruiz to not give joshua the mid range and to either be up close or not be there at all. those are very clear, easy to understand instructions. i can't imagine how it mustve felt to watch ruiz do nothing but give joshua the mid range for 12 rounds in the rematch.

Didn't watch Ruiz-Joshua "The Rematch" but thanks for the RBR's and post-fight commentaries, guys.

I simultaneously feel like I watched the fight and sort of glad I didn't.

So Ruiz disrespected the sport by showing up like a fat blob and stunk up the ring. Oh well... I guess those "lean and mean" training camp Ruiz pictures were either photoshopped... or Ruiz goes up and down in weight like a yo-yo.

Joshua I gather was tentative, but hey... he did what he had to do to win. Now he's champ again, and Ruiz's 15 minutes of fame are up.

Sounds like a throwback fight to the chloroforming fights of Wlad's reign... and I'm hoping it's just a speed bump on the road back to exciting HW fights.

Still hoping for the Wilder-Fury rematch (I take nothing for granted where Fury's concerned)... if Fury's done fighting the Ottos and the Schwarzes of the world.

Actually hoping for a Wilder win... because I can see Fury turning a Fury-Joshua fight into Fury-Wlad Part II, in which case well.... fuck the heavies again.

Oh... does Ruiz deserve the trilogy? Fuck no. He's supposedly a professional. It's not like he (or his team) don't have knowledge of the Buster Douglases of the boxing world.

You come in like that and lose..... get back in the queue.

Ruiz wins the rubber match if the ring is 17 feet.

Ruiz got very lucky winning the first fight. There is no way he deserve a 3rd fight because he did not bother training adequately for the rematch. Why should he get another opportunity for a title fight?

If he wins a couple and gets back in shape then AJ should do the rubber match.

AJ won comprehensively but Ruiz's win was more convincing. Had it been a football tie Ruiz would have won on aggregate.

It's the fact he showed disrespect for the sport and title.

Lennox Lewis slams Andy Ruiz Jr’s ‘excuse’ for losing Anthony Joshua rematch

Lennox Lewis has dismissed Andy Ruiz Jr’s ‘excuse’ for losing his rematch with Anthony Joshua on Saturday night.

The Brit outboxed his Mexican-American opponent over 12 rounds to reclaim the heavyweight world titles he lost by knockout back in June.

In the aftermath, Ruiz Jr claimed that he’d spent too much time celebrating his victory and not enough time training to retain his titles in the rematch.

As a result, he came in heavy at over 20 stone and was unable to catch up to AJ second time around.

This explanation hasn’t gone down well in all boxing circles, with Joshua himself having already responded.

Now, Lennox has replied and said: “Just saw Andy Ruiz Jr saying not being fully prepared and in shape for rematch could have happened to anyone.

“Not true. That’s a bad excuse.

“One person was serious about those belts and the other wasn’t. Simple as that!”
