It is not her job to go all over the world for your pleasure. It is everyone's responsibility to be mindful of the environment. So be sensible.
its not about pleasure. But if she's so into the cause, why doesnt she go where its truly most dire? Of course its everybody's, but its like going to Beverly Hills, Califoonia and lecturing/scolding/yelling about innner city crime in Detroit. Just go straight to the jugular and go to Detroit.
She went to the Americas to attend the International climate summits in New York and Chile etc. I would use your favourite word 'disingenuous' but I am not about to waste my time calling out fucking middle aged men attacking a 16yr old for fighting for something she believes in . It is an insane inversion of reality in which the same men ( as in YOU Brock) who would bemoan the younger generation not doing anything but look at their phones and games are now getting on their high horse about a 16 yr old who has already sailed across the Atlantic and got boots in their millions on the ground.

You do not even have to agree with her, or believe in climate change, but if she is what you all consider to be an acceptable target to launch your fucking feeble entitled bile towards, you must be pretty lame in real life.

There are Saddos and there are absolute fucking rotters. I would much rather be a Saddo.

Adult professionals, many of whom have a genuine concern for the environment, were at those summits. Having a 16-year old Swedish girl from a well-to-do background scolding them like so many naughty children is, IMHO, not the best look nor strategy to resolve the world's environmental crisis.

Contrary to what you and many others may think, some of us still feel this was a calculated, sensationalist stunt pulled off by adults behind the scenes. Whether the effect was positive or not remains to be seen, I guess. But suffice it to say that those who do not believe there is anything wrong with the environment or the climate change, are not about to be swayed to the other side by a yelling, grimacing teenaged girl.

It is also a verifiable fact that most of the world's pollution and climate damaging man-made activities are occurring, and have been occurring for many years, in the very nations being mentioned here on this thread. To ignore that fact and continue driving the nail into the more progressive nations is a bit of foolish selective targeting, if you ask me. I'd rather see efforts to encourage/coerce offending nations to step in line, or risk economic and diplomatic sanctions.
Those very people castigating a brave 16 yr old girl here on Saddos and in the wider world have absolutely no respect for adult professionals. No respect for experts or scientists, the environment or the fact that their own children will if they are lucky inherit the mess they leave. Think of it what you will, the reality is a three week crossing of the Atlantic in a yacht is not for the feint hearted. She put her money where her mouth was. She is a spokeperson for a generation you and I have no authority to lecture. We have failed them. It is not sensationalist to point out how short sighted and selfish our generation and the ones before it have been.

Nobody is ignoring India or China. What people are willfully ignoring is the fact that the problem is not restricted to first, second or third world countries. It is a global issue and pretending that the USA, which is an atrocious country as far as man made climate change is concerned, should get a free pass under an administration that denies science is preposterous. If there is to be sanctions the USA should certainly be among the first to be shut down if needs be.

She went to the Americas because that is where the INTERNATIONAL climate change conferences were held. They were not held in India or China.

What is even more troubling is people being offended by emotion, by passion, by action , by the most human of qualities being expressed by someone purely because it is by somebody NOT LIKE THEM.

This whole board has massive issues with difference and diversity, even diversity of thought.

That is the reality of most people's lives off it but on here it is like fantasy island circa 1800 ffs

"Those very people castigating a brave 16 yr old girl here on Saddos and in the wider world have absolutely no respect for adult professionals."

I have absolutely no idea what this is supposed to mean. I have all the respect in the world for the adult professionals who care about the environment. When speaking about a board with "massive issues" with diversity of thought, some thought should be given to ideas and opinions that do not mirror your own. I am careful to state my personal opinions with respect and clarity, so they are well understood. But I balk at the idea that because my opinions don't match others on here, that it is I that has the "massive issues" with diversity of thought.

My opinion stands that most responsible, mature, adult professionals react more positively to facts, figures, and sensible adult conversations... than to broad-brush scoldings from a 16-year old, regardless of how she chose to travel across the Atlantic.

Took me a minute didn't realize she's on a first name basis. Truth be told and regardless of her little automaton delivery or backing...willing to bet this girl has invested and logged more physical time and effort in standing for a chosen cause than most of us stern hearted and steely eyed keyboard mashers here. When I was 15 I didn't even have the commitment to finish my paper route on Sunday morning.

"I don't want you to listen to me I want you to listen to the scientists"

This is what Greta Thunberg has said since day one. Again and again. So to suggest that she is trying to replace "adult professionals" is simply not true. Also to pretend that the jury is still out on whether her actions have had any effect is again a bit daft when literally millions of people all over the world joined her in her 'klimate strike'.

And no I am not accusing you of being a climate change denier Titofan or of "having no respect for adult professionals", but there are many here who do not, and worse still, wear it as a badge of honour. And they are the most vocal, the dominant voices in the room.

The fact is the USA is the all time biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in the history of this planet. No other nation comes anywhere near it. FACT.

So the thread opener suggesting that somehow it is the responsibility of a 16yr old to ignore that fact and travel to India to satisfy his own virtue signalling faux French bullshit outrage is stupid.

Tear her down (not you), slag her off, mock her, whatever, but for Le Blockbuster to pretend that she needs to travel to India (because that is more edgy) to impress him is pathetic.

There has long been a movement here to pretend that the brave thing to do is to attack anyone or anything that is unusual, unconventional, non traditional, foreign, etc and that is not something to mistake as a positive.

This board sits on a server thanks to a Brit living in Germany and yet it has until very recently had to put up with someone who once threatened to sue it, pretending that Brits should still be hostile toward Germans as though that was a patriotic attribute.

Common sense has been hijacked by the Jack asses like your President and his council of fools. If it had not been maybe kids would not find themselves thousands of miles from home grimacing in genuine distress at how useless many of the responsible adults are.

Looking at that chart China's rise from 1970 is incredible, how long will it be before they overtake America? (And rule the entire planet?)

It is a complex issue. In many ways they may hold the key to fighting climate change because of the investments they are making in research but on the other hand their environmental track record is appalling and they are well and truly fucking over Australia and Africa in exploiting them mercilessly for resources.

There's not a "one-size-fits-all" solution to climate issues or pollution. (I mention the two together because, whether or not one believes climate change is partly man-made, there's no denying the effect of totally man-made pollution on the planet).

By saying that, I'm saying that Greta's crusade may help in some aspects, but not necessarily others. If we can ignore sources, I believe the following article speaks to some of the fears some of us have.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/ar...g-s-radicalism

The author is neither hating on, nor making fun of Greta. Yet he's making some valid points. For all her sudden fame, Greta remains a 16-year old, hardly a person with the capacity to understand all the nuances and complexity of demanding climate action in a world so diverse and complicated. He mentions Greta's backing and encouragement of extremist movements like Extinction Rebellion, whose handiwork we've already seen in the disruption of everyday life, much to the chagrin of everyday people just trying to get to work.

Not being a total Greta supporter does not necessarily translate into a hater of "anyone or anything that is unusual, unconventional, non traditional, foreign, etc." I recently read through a NG issue celebrating women, in which one of the highlighted issues is the struggle being faced in countries like India regarding the very safety of women. Many of these women, some very young in age, have taken matters into their own hands through demonstrations, civic actions, movements.... and have thrust themselves into the limelight. I totally applaud and support that. But I cannot hold a 16-year old Swedish girl from a fairly comfortable background in one of the world's least offensive countries (on environmental issues) in the same regard as I do these women who are practically and truly "fighting for their future." One smacks of sensationalism, stoked by behind the scene adults. The other is a true, desperate and personally-lived struggle. Not sure if I'm making myself understood here.

In the end, Greta's campaign may be helpful in some ways, and may be harmful in others. I still cringe at the thought of being in the shoes of a highly-educated climate professional... traveling to a summit to discuss climate change... and being subjected to a shrieking scolding by a 16-year old. But I will say this: At the very least it has put the environment at the forefront of conversations. Like her methods (or those behind the scenes) or not..... the unarguable fact is that by being controversial she has brought the conversation to the forefront.

Another complexity of climate change/pollution. While the U.S. may the worst offender in CO2 emissions, it would be globally foolish to ignore the countries rapidly catching up, like China. Not to mention the fact that CO2 emissions are but a portion of the whole climate change/pollution picture. Water pollution is a far more urgent matter, IMO, and an animated graph on that would probably look a bit different. Like any complex issue, it's simply not a matter of "either or". It will take a multi-pronged approach, and by that I mean that while countries like the U.S. are to be expected to do their part, the huge offenders on the other side of the globe cannot just be given a pass because..... well, because "we don't have any control over what they do." We share the same planet, and it's everyone's business.

I heard one of Greta's fans, an expert, say cows cause the most damage through blowing off (Methane). Is that true? If so why not kill all the cows? Nobody is missing beef and milk that much and the farmers can get a different job, like Bus conductors and all the other past lifestyles that went out of fashion.

The leading advocates of the Climate Change movement are politicians, entertainers, and even children. Climate preachers such as Al Gore and Leonardo DiCaprio lack any formal scientific training whatsoever, and live personal lives of unparalleled luxury while prescribing carbon austerity for the masses. Yet no one is permitted to point out their scientific ignorance or call attention to their hypocritical lifestyles.

Child advocates such as Greta Thuneberg and the crudely indoctrinated children of the “Sunrise movement” are essentially sock puppets for their shameless activist handlers. Refuse to bend the knee to these tiny fascists, as Diane Feinstein most recently did, and the mainstream left will relentlessly attack you as an accessory to mass murder.
