Sounds like after all of this that Jr missed weight by five pounds and now are setting the weight at 173. He is such a joke.

That would be not shocking for him. What a waste of space.

I rarely skip fights on principle but this one fits the bill. It’s not interesting for one and Chavez deserves absolutely nothing.

This is going to sound off but how is a slacker dud like Chavez can even be allowed to afford 1 million in penalties . Feels a bit like the cheapening of Danny Jacobs in what is basically a win nothing, save for a fat bonus, lose everything type event. He's adrift division wise.

Accentuate the positive, here's hoping Jacobs can at least pull the impressive knockout El Gordo deserves .

Jacobs gets an extra million quid from Chavez purse, you wonder why he chose Chavez? A million from Chavez purse (that's why Jr will always get big fights).

Look how happy he is and devastated Rosado is that Jacobs took the extra mill instead of facing him. Boxing is about nothing but the coin.

Everybody has known why Jacobs picked Chavez since the beginning. He is an easy fight that makes him money. Jacobs isn’t even going to break a sweat. And now he is getting an extra million. Rosado isn’t a tough fight either but at least Rosado is a little more game.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. docked $1M after badly missing weight

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. escaped one misstep to be cleared to fight Daniel Jacobs.

His second cost him a reported $1 million.

The fight will still go on. But after Chavez missed weight for the super middleweight bout by almost five pounds on Thursday, his wallet will be considerably lighter.

    Closer to light heavyweight
Chavez, who has a history of missing weight, weighed in at 172.7 pounds when he stepped on the scale on Thursday.

The reading put him closer to the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds than the 168-pound super middleweight standard.

Jacobs agreed to go on with the fight with one significant contract stipulation. According to ESPN’s Dan Rafael, Jacobs’ team demanded that Chavez surrender $1 million of his scheduled $3 million purse.

Jacobs had significant leverage after Chavez required a federal judge’s ruling on Tuesday to lift a Nevada State Athletic Commission suspension for refusing a random drug test in October.

When the chance arose that Chavez couldn’t fight, Jacobs’ team lined up a standby opponent in former middleweight challenger Gabriel Rosado.

Jacobs reportedly happy to take on the extra cash

When Chavez agreed to surrender a portion of his purse, Chavez agreed to fight at a catchweight of 173 pounds, according to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger. Chavez, a Mexican fighter, is a big draw for the Phoenix fight.

Rosado will fight in the undercard.

"It doesn't bother us at all,” Jacobs’ manager Keith Connolly told ESPN of Chavez missing weight. “Danny's still gonna beat his ass.”

The fight is scheduled for Friday night at Phoenix’s Talking Stick Resort Arena and will be available on DAZN.

I wonder what earthly possible toehold in boxing the 5-pound overweight Junior thinks he could achieve with a victory over Jacobs. Would he expect a title shot?

For as much as Canelo is coddled, Chavez has to be the most entitled fighter in the history of boxing. He was getting $3 million for this fight? He hasn’t fought in years and was never even good in the first place. He has been caught cheating more times than you can count and has missed weight on multiple occasions. There is no more unlikable boxer when it comes to the boxing game. There may be some worse human beings, but he is the worst in the overall boxing sense.

This is priceless. Chavez basically couldn't have intended to make the weight at any point. A regular pro will often be 5 pounds over with weeks to go. Either he didnt train period, or this was always agreed upon. Guess it just shows Mexican American fighters have the most infaliable drawing power in the sport.
