Carter was one of the worst Presidents in history with the economy. That didn't make him divisive. It made him ineffective and highly unpopular. I guess our definitions of divisive differ.
He still had a large following who supported him thus I say divisive.

I see where your error is. You're using the definition of divisive...

    di·vi·sive
    /dəˈvīsiv/
    adjective
tending to cause disagreement or hostility between people.

In that sense yeah.... Carter was divisive. Every POTUS has been divisive. Boxers are divisive. Football teams are divisive. Choosing a restaurant is divisive.

Here's the definition of divisive person...

"Here is my definition of a divisive person: A divisive person intentionally, actively, and repeatedly rubs raw the resentments of people within a community, fans the latent hostilities of many people, searches out controversy and issues rather than avoiding them, and stirs up dissatisfaction and discontent."

Key words to look out for here: "intentionally", "fans hostilities", "searches out controversy", "stirs up"

Trump is all of these. Carter was none of them.

    But your confusion was understandable.
I’d say your confusion is forgivable

Mueller has diddly poo and we know that because President Trump is still President Trump. The story is "Donald Trump asked Russia to help with information on/from Hillary and the Democrats" and why do we know that's a bunch of bullshit? Well the 33,000 emails HRC deleted/used bleach bit on are still missing and if Russia had been listening and/or in cahoots with Trump or WikiLeaks then THOSE emails would have shown up at some point. Secondly there's good old Vault 7 from the CIA which got leaked out and showed that indeed a hacking could take place (or faked) and made to seem as though a foreign actor had done the dirty deed. What could set the record straight on that? The servers themselves or Julian Assange.

He actually put his oath to defend the Constitution above his Senate career unlike the rest of the GOP. It's quite possible for even complete scumbags, which Romney is not, to do something good at some point in their lives and there's no contradiction or incongruity in pointing out when somebody does something good.
It was mocked because the corporate newsmedia has a double standard for politicians. They only care for THEIR candidate and it is a disservice to our political system. Your praise for Romney rings hollow.

Mueller charged twenty five Russians with a variety of charges stemming from them hacking the DNC computer system. He wasn't able to charge Trump with anything due to various Trump underlings refusing to cooperate with the investigation, destroying evidence, taking the fifth and various other tactics.

Romney was mocked because he said something mockable. He did something unique the other day, or at least unique compared to the rest of the Republican Senate and House representatives, that I think is noteworthy. Romney may have been an outright crook or otherwise bad person previous to this event, and he wasn't, and it would still be worth mentioning the noble thing that he did even if just to contrast it with the rest of the GOP national representatives.

War presidents? Because half the nation doesn't want war and the other does? Well.... that's kind of unavoidable, isn't it.

We're not talking about differences in basic philosophies here. Even Presidents who have chosen to go to war have tried to unite the nation behind them.

We're talking about a POTUS who can barely hide his glee when people are going at each others' throats. The worse the carnage, the happier he is.
Historically I don’t think he is the most divisive president. Shit look at Carter and he didn’t use any bad words. I see all the hate, I think it gets a little overboard. I really don’t see any of his policies or deregulation’s as bad. He says stupid stuff it doesn’t really bother me that much. I do have some serious concerns over a certain faction of the democrats. Funny we don’t hear much about it but when the tea party was first around damn they were torn up and targeted by the IRS etc. now we have a group of people holding office that call certain parts of our law enforcement bodies evil. I’m not big on law enforcement I think they have too much power and don’t always use it properly but I wouldn’t call ICE workers Nazis and want them abolished. Anyway things are what they are, I get annoyed with Trump sometimes but the squad and the radical arm of the Dems seriously scare me. They want to do some frightening shit. I’ll take bad words and stupid tweets over that anyday. Talk about divisive

    How was Carter divisive?

Yeah..... I'm kinda waiting to hear the tall story on how Carter was divisive. TBH, I think people just make shit up as they go along. I've never had that talent.
Ahhhh. You don’t think the nation was divided under carter? It wasn’t his bad words it was a little more than that. How about Nixon or Johnson or Lincoln or are we just talking about presidents who talk gruff and not policies. People were burning Carter effigies in the streets of America. People don’t like 18 percent interest rates and no gas in their car, Carter was very divisive in the country.

Twenty percent interest rates. How was Carter responsible for twenty percent interest rates? How was he responsible for petrol shortages? Significant numbers of Americans are going to react badly to negative externalities like soaring nterest rates and petrol shortages. This does not make the president at the time a divisive figure. Anyway two questions need answering here. We have a teachable moment.

Where do you get this "worst" thing from? He gave a much criticised speech about "economic malaise" which history shows was fucking bang on the money. His massively criticised "malaise" year saw 3.6% growth, double the current growth rate that Trump is declaring the best economy in US history and which will make tens of millions of low information voters vote for Trump this November. It certainly looks like the narratives that people are fed count far more than actual facts and evidence, doesn't it?

U.S. history is littered with not-very-well-liked Presidents. Lousy economies... unpopular wars... overwhelmingly negative social issues. Whether or not an individual POTUS is to blame is the subject of never-ending debates. It doesn't make any one of them divisive figures. A divisive person is one who sets out to create conflict for conflict's sake. One who thrives at the creation of conflict, and fans the flames of confrontations. Up until now, all Presidents sought to unite the nation at one point or another. Call it love of country, or call it looking at the poll numbers. Whatever. No past President has blatantly thumbed his nose at his enemies, real or imagined, and thought more about payback and revenge rather than mending and moving forward. Carter may have well been to blame for many of the economic woes of the country during that time. He certainly got a horrible grade at foreign affairs, having been widely perceived as a wimp. Many saw Reagan as a welcome respite. But again..... Jimmy Carter was not a divisive person. Only blind Trump groupies cannot accept the fact that Trump is the most divisive POTUS in history.

That 2.9% Trump growth rate is massively misleading by the way. Trump had one 2.9% year or growth and then one 2.1% year like Obama. The extra point eight percent for one year was down to a tax cut and a massive increase in government spending. Even with the tax cut and continued huge spending increase he's now settled down to a two percent growth rate. So he's doing worse than Obama was (Obama also had a year of 2.9% growth despite the GOP cutting deficit spending when the economy actually needed it and no tax cut.) This is interesting reading for the unfortunately few people interested in this:

As is the case with just about every other President, Carter inherited the economy he walked into. Unfortunately he had some major issues to deal with, but the fact of the matter is that much of his administration suffered from high unemployment and inflation numbers. Again.... Carter's own performance on the economy can be debated.... but that's not even the focus of this particular argument. My point is that to call Carter divisive because his administration suffered from specific problems, is ridiculous. A drowning man will clutch at a straw..... and that's what walrus is doing by diverting attention from the fact that Trump is the MOST DIVISIVE President in history.

"Most divisive President in history".......Lincoln's election kicked off the 'War Between The States' .....the fellow did nothing but get elected and America's deadliest war was started.

Soooooo maybe toss the caveat of "Modern Era" in there and MAYBE you've got the guy, but even then Wilson, Nixon, Reagan, Obama.....plenty of divisiveness to go 'round

What about George Bush Jnr? Surely he was worse than Trump with illegal wars, collapsing the economy, and turning America into a police state. Not good people.

With Trump I see some rays of hope in there at times. With Bush it was 8 years of carnage.

Ahh... yes, Lincoln. How could we leave HIM out of the argument?

He ran on a platform that opposed slavery..... got elected..... and war began.
Exactly the same as Trump dividing the country with his hate-mongering against immigrants, minorities..... and his petty, vindictive behavior toward his real or imagined enemies.
    Wow..... what an ironclad argument!!

    Hey guys.

It's pretty obvious that what I said to walrus applies to all Trump fanatics. You not only want to win the game..... you want to score all the baskets as well.

Trump is beyond criticism on ANY front. The guy has NEVER done ANYTHING wrong. He's beyond reproach.

    You want fries with that?
