This has to be the best match up out there currently possibly.

We could learn alot about Lopez, but the craft and experience of Loma I see as the deciding factor for him to win. That being said it wouldn't be a huge shock if the youngster pull off a shock.

Bookies make Loma 1/4. Probably the lowest he's ever been.

I think very highly of Lopez but the gulf in experience is to wide. Lopez has size and power to hurt Loma but catching him clean will not be easy. I've got Loma taking Lopez deep and drowning him.

Vasiliy Lomachenko-Teofimo Lopez title unification bout set for October on ESPN

Though contracts are not signed, Top Rank president Todd duBoef confirmed to Yahoo Sports on Wednesday a report by The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger that WBA/WBC/WBO lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko and IBF champion Teofimo Lopez will meet in October in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Conference Center in a bout that will be broadcast by ESPN.

The title unification bout, one of the biggest in boxing that could be made, pits the pound-for-pound star Lomachenko against the brash, hard-punching Lopez, who is 15-0 with 12 knockouts.

The fight had been targeted for Oct. 3 on pay-per-view, but with it looking like ESPN would have holes in its fall schedule because of the uncertainty of college football due to the coronavirus pandemic, Top Rank and ESPN were able to come to an agreement to put the bout in the second half of October on ESPN.

That makes it a huge windfall for fans that all but guarantees the bout will be the highest-rated “Top Rank Boxing on ESPN” in this iteration of the promotion’s deal with the network.

Lopez, 23, has been calling out Lomachenko, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, since early in his professional career. Lopez became a sensation because of his power and colorful persona.

Lopez, a Brooklyn native, represented Honduras in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, when he failed to make the U.S. team. He did not medal and signed with Top Rank as a pro, and immediately began to wow fans with his punching power and in-ring antics. He was the 2017 and 2018 Yahoo Sports Prospect of the Year, the only fighter chosen more than once.

Lopez won the IBF title in spectacular fashion on Dec. 14, knocking out Richard Commey in the second round.

In Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs), though, he’ll be facing by far the most difficult challenge of his career. Lomachenko won Olympic gold medals in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London while putting together a mind-boggling 396-1 amateur record. He has already won world titles at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight as a pro and is ranked third, behind Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, on Yahoo Sports’ list of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. Lomachenko is No. 1 on many other lists.

asyl Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez have now agreed terms to meet in a highly anticipated unification fight targeted for October 17.

Ukraine’s WBA, WBO and WBC ‘franchise’ lightweight champion will get the opportunity to secure the final belt he hasn’t yet won at 135lbs.

America’s Lopez claimed that elusive IBF title by knocking out Richard Commey last December.

Despite being just 22 years of age, he subsequently called out the pound-for-pound star and they have been in negotiations since.

It was reported that Lomachenko initially agreed his side of the deal for a $3.5million purse.

However, Lopez was not happy with the $1.2m he was offered.

Now, according to The Athletic, Loma has agreed to take less money ($3.25m) to make the fight happen.

It’s claimed Lopez could now earn up to $1.5m.

“We came to an agreement,” Lopez’s manager David McWater confirmed to BoxingScene.

“It was a complicated deal but we made it. Bob Arum and I have been talking and we finally got it done.”

October 17 is the target date for the fight inside Top Rank’s MGM Grand ‘bubble’ in Las Vegas. October 24 is also possible.

Top Rank announced its October schedule on Tuesday and it’s the company’s best month since it returned in June from a delay caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Top Rank had previously announced the Oct. 17 lightweight title unification bout between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez, which will be on ESPN and be for the IBF-WBA-WBO lightweight titles and the WBC lightweight franchise title.

But it announced its full schedule, which has a number of entertaining matches on it.

On Oct. 3 on ESPN+, Jose Zepeda will face Ivan Baranchyk in a super lightweight bout.

On Oct. 9, KO artist Emanuel Navarrete will face unbeaten Ruben Villa for the vacant WBO featherweight title on ESPN.

On Oct. 23, light heavyweight Artur Beterbiev, who is 15-0 with 15 knockouts, will defend his IBF-WBC belts against Adam Deines in Moscow on ESPN+.

And on Oct. 31, budding superstar Naoya Inoue, who is 19-0 with 16 KOs, will meet Jason Moloney on ESPN+ for the IBF-WBA bantamweight titles.

All fights except for Beterbiev-Deines will be at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.

    He said it

“Teofimo Lopez can talk all he wants. He’s very good at talking. He has done nothing but say my name for the past two years. I am a fighter, and my goal is to win another world title. Good for Teofimo. When we fight in Las Vegas, he will eat my punches and his words. I will be the better man, and four world titles will come home with me to Ukraine.” —

    lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.

Vasyl Lomachenko to face Teofimo Lopez in Las Vegas

Vasyl Lomachenko, recognised by many as the world’s best pound-for-pound fighter, will take on Teofimo Lopez on October 17 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Lomachenko holds the WBA and WBO lightweight titles and has been elevated to ‘franchise’ champion with the WBC, but the Ukrainian faces a stiff test against the undefeated Lopez, who is in possession of the IBF crown at 135lbs.

The Ukrainian, a three-weight world champion, has not fought since defeating Luke Campbell at London’s O2 Arena in August last year, when he took his record to 14 wins in 15 professional contests.

The build-up to that contest was notable for the respect each fighter showed the other beforehand and afterwards, but Lomachenko revealed he has grown tired of his next opponent’s taunts in the last couple of years.

“Teofimo Lopez can talk all he wants,” Lomachenko said. “He’s very good at talking. He has done nothing but say my name for the past two years. I am a fighter, and my goal is to win another world title.

“When we fight in Las Vegas, he will eat my punches and his words. I will be the better man, and four world titles will come home with me to Ukraine.”

The brash Lopez became world champion and moved to 15-0 in his native New York last December when he stopped the highly-rated Richard Commey in just two rounds, elevating the American’s reputation as a fearsome puncher.

He said: “I will beat up Lomachenko and take his belts. Simple as that. I’m coming to Las Vegas to make history. I don’t like the guy, and I’m going to have fun as Lomachenko’s face is beaten and marked up by my hands.”
