I don't miss Cleese's point at all. He's speaking of the British right-wing which at that time was still rather different than the Republicans and Libertarians, but I welcome the humor and critique from him. He's speaking from a place of balance, something which needs to be restored. He's been pushed out of the left since then, almost evicted and yet here you are unironically attempting to reclaim him and I guess you see yourself as moderate like you see yourself as reasonable and you see yourself NOT "picking and choosing" your morals and values either.
