I understand that after a long time out but if you are not hurting your opponent past halfway then play to your strengths and score points.

Ended up very close and could have lost it surprisingly.

    Anyway main event on now.

Okolie is boxing beautifully and too fast for Glowacki in the 3rd.

Okolie landed some hurtful and damaging right hands against Glowacki in the 4th. Really hurt there.

Okolie damaging the face of Glowacki with the fast jab and hurtful right hand in the 5th. Total control and very good performance from him.

Perfect ko from Okolie on the 6th with a destructive right hand against the southpaw Glowacki.

    Very good performance!

    Flawless.

Never realised Okolie was with Shane McGuigan. Fair play to him winning a World title.
We should allow him to enjoy being World Cruiserweight Champion. But do we think he is going to make an impact at HW ? Maybe a bit unfair to be thinking that far ahead because he’s got unfinished business at CW.
BTW. What the fuck is that suit Eddie is wearing ? Drawstring trousers? Maybe too many takeaways in lockdown. And white pumps ? Smh.

Lawrence Okolie KOs Krzysztof Glowacki to win world title - then demands £30,000 watch

Okolie was fighting for the cruiserweight world title in just his 16th fight having already won the British, Commonwealth and European belts

Lawrence Okolie KO'd Krzysztof Glowacki to become world champion - then demanded promoter Eddie Hearn follow through on his promise of a Rolex.

Okolie stopped his experienced Polish opponent in the sixth round to win the vacant WBO cruiserweight title in just his 16th fight.

And he revealed Hearn had vowed to treat his fighter to a £30,000 watch when he signed him following the Rio Olympics in 2016.

"Throughout the whole fight, all I was thinking was one thing," said Okolie. "Four years ago, Eddie Hearn saw a boy from Hackney and said to him, 'If you win a world title, I'm gonna get you a gold Sky-Dweller.' Every single moment in that ring, that's all I was thinking."

"It went exactly to plan. I said I'd get it done between rounds five-eight.

"I knew he was struggling to catch up with me. So it was difficult for him to make the decision to get up."

Okolie should have faced Glowacki in December, but a positive COVID test ruled the Pole out and left Okolie facing a late substitute

But he shrugged off the delay to dominate the fight with a controlled performance from the first bell.

Glowacki, whose only defeats came against former undisputed champion Oleskandr Usyk and Mairis Briedis, was never in the fight.

And after he was wobbled in the fourth round, he met his end in the sixth when a right hand left him writhing on the canvas.

"Out of the champions, Mairis Briedis is the one I'd most like to fight," he added.

Promoter Hearn added: "Glowacki was top five in the world. Okolie has had criticism but he's a novice. It was an absolute masterclass. That was good enough to beat any cruiserweight.

"We want to unify then move up to heavyweight. He has scary power but also has the knowledge."

    Okolie did well, didn’t he?

He is a rangy, good athlete with fast hands and looks like a decent bit of power

Obviously, we know nothing about his stamina or chin, because fighters get to ‘world’ title shots without serving any sort of apprenticeship or learning their trade properly.

He is a big-shouldered 6’5” so he won’t be at cruiser weight for long.

He looks well coached, but I noticed a terrible flaw .... every time he threw that rather good jab, he dropped his right hand. Better guys than Glowacki (who offered durability but absolutely nothing else) will draw his left lead and then counter him. He needs to get that ironed out pronto.

Great performance by Okolie and shows he can actually be an enjoyable watch when he's not doing his octopus trick! Good win, let's see where he goes next.

Can anyone honestly see him getting further than European level at Heavyweight?
    I can't.
