    Default Living legends .....

Coincidentially, I was going to post this last week. Diego Maradona was on the list!

I was just thinking about how the media eulogise people, often quite rightly, after they die. There is always a big outpouring of sadness and great respect and admiration for what they did .... sort of a 'what a life, what a person, we will never see their like again'

But most genuine living legends (who don't die young) spend quite a few of their last years in relative obscurity, out of the media and the memory of them does dim in the public eye.

I thought it would be nice to try and think of some GENUINE living legends, maybe who aren't on the news and in the gossip columns so much anymore, but who are still alive.

They do need to be proper crossover stars, and we can debate that ad nauseam .... but can you imagine the press coverage and sadness when those people do pass on:

    (in no particular order)

Tina Turner, Pele, Mick Jagger, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, David Attenborough, Clint Eastwood, Billie Jean King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ozzy Osbourne, Christopher Walken, Robert de Niro, even Queen Elizabeth II I suppose.

Who else should we perhaps appreciate a bit more now, rather than after they are dead?

    Nice thread.

In sports, the following names come to mind: Willie Mays, Hank Aaron (baseball)...... Jack Nicklaus (golf). These are all into their 80's, and should be appreciated while they're still alive.

    More to come....

Great thread, and I’ll probably post on it a few times as I start to think about different people. But to start with I’m gonna concentrate on Tennis.
I don’t think we quite realise how Federer, Nadal and to a degree Djokovic have totally transformed the game and dragged it into the 21st century. They are consummate athletes with Power and speed, but also finesse. This is probably the best 3 men’s players ever to play the sport, and they’re all in the same era.

I'd even say Jimmy Carter (96). Regardless of your political leanings, there's a certain melancholy to be felt about back in the day when POTUS'es where to be admired and respected.

Beat me to it . The man is a helluva humanitarian but sadly seems omitted from much of the current 'living Presidents' talk. Physically he's not doing well at all.

Jack Nicklaus, Raquel Welch and Sofia Loren definitely! Bit early for Federer/Nadal/Dopovic as they are not out of the public eye really.

I don't know about Willie Mays and Hank Aaron, because I know nothing about baseball!

    How about Willie Nelson

Yep... Willie Nelson. He's also upper 80's. Man... a lot of these greats mentioned are at an age where all of a sudden we're going to see them pass on pretty much clumped together.
