If that happens that will be a moral victory for BJS and he would get a return match making even more money.

He'd have to win nine or ten rounds to get a draw.

That's if Canelo gets lured out of "Vega-xico".

Otherwise it's eleven to twelve rounds or a knockout.

Canelo Alvarez has declared that he is planning to fight five times in the space of just 12 months.

Mexico’s pound-for-pound king was unhappy with the disruption the coronavirus pandemic, coupled with promotional issues, had on his career last year, resulting in him competing just once.

After securing his free agency, Canelo won the WBA and WBC super-middleweight world titles by comfortably defeating Callum Smith on December 12.

Now, he has told Dan Rafael that he wants four fights in 2021, meaning that he’d have competed five times from December to December.

Canelo’s next bout is scheduled for February 27, a mandatory defence against Turkey’s Avni Yildirim.

This is expected to be a straightforward task for him and, as such, his challenger after that is already lined up.

Terms have been agreed for Canelo to unify with WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders on May 8.

This would put the Mexican one step closer to his current goal – becoming the first fighter in history to hold all four belts as an undisputed champion in the super-middleweight division.

Following Saunders in May, Canelo has said he also hopes to stay active with events in September and December.

Caleb Plant would most likely be the main target for the first of these fights as he holds the IBF belt which, if he beats Saunders, would be the final piece in Canelo’s undisputed puzzle.

Gennady Golovkin also remains in the picture and has repeatedly said that he wants to share the ring with the Mexican one last time.

GGG and Canelo drew when they first met in 2017, though many felt the Kazakh power puncher was very unfortunate not to get the decision.

As for their rematch in 2018, the contest was far closer and Canelo claimed victory by a narrow majority decision.

Golovkin turns 39 in April, while Canelo is now in his true prime at age 30.

I'd be mightily impressed if that came off!!
He last did that back in 2011, at a time when he was racking up wins, which even back then was still a lot of fighting for a top prospect boxer....certainly out of the norm.

The superstars of today barely fight once a year. So you have to take your hat off for Canelo's desire to fight mutliple times a year.

Five times in one year, with nothing else considered, is a very busy schedule.

I would say "Bravo", except for one small detail.

    I prefer quality over quantity.

Let's look at a real Mexican champion of the past in a three-year stretch. JMM from 2007 to 2010.

    Mar 07 - MAB
    Nov 07 - Rocky Juarez
    Mar 08 - Pac
    Sep 08 - Casamayor
    Feb 09 - Juan Diaz
    Sep 09 - Floyd
    Jul 10 - Juan Diaz
    Nov 10 - Katsidis

Averaged two fights a year... ALL against dangerous, estimable opponents. In fact, he lost TWICE in that stretch. And what does that mean? Absolutely NOTHING. Only that he always took on the BEST, without marinating, ducking, catchweighing, etc. A TRUE champion.

So... while Canelo is fighting 5 times a year against the Avni Yildirims of the world... those of us who remember the "non-diva" champions of the past will have to be forgiven if we're just not impressed.
