Saunders will try to be as elusive as usual but he has been nowhere near as busy as Alvarez, and so what could once have been quite a large gap, will now have closed considerably. I don't think Canelo struggles against Southpaws as was once claimed and he will be much more comfortable at the weight than Saunders who is never going to be a big hitter. It still has plenty of intrigue but I think at this point Alvarez has improved massively while Saunders has stagnated. As much of of a twat as he is outside of the Ring, I hope Saunders can pull it off or at least expose some of Canelos flaws and show us how brilliantly he can string combinations and feints together himself. If he chooses to tag and move keeping away from the big Mexican for 12 rounds, then you can't pretend that is not a valid tactic. It will just give the Judges another excuse to mark him down though, so I think it will be hard for him to get a points win without trading, and that is not going to end well for him.

Wider points win for Canelo than he deserves, in a close contest were he never looks really troubled.

Billy may even have to do a Fury/Lazarus and get back of his arse at some point if he wants to risk laying traps.

CANELO ALVAREZ opened up on his sole career defeat to Floyd Mayweather, which he put down to inexperience and a lesson learned.

The Mexican superstar was just 23 when he faced Mayweather in 2013, which sold a then-record 2.2million pay-per-views.

Canelo, the WBC light-middleweight champion at 154lb at the time, was also made to fight at a catchweight 152lb limit.

Mayweather later put on a masterclass over 12 rounds, but it proved to be the last blemish on Alvarez's record.

Canelo, 30, said on Mike Tyson's podcast: "I know what happened, I'm going to be with my trainer all my life, because I know.

"When I fought with Floyd, I was 23. I always think I need to fight first with Cotto, Lara and all of those guys and then Floyd.

"But that's what it is. I needed more experience, more mature. I don't take that fight like a loss, I learned from that fight."

Mayweather, now 44, showcased expert counter punching and defence against Canelo that night in Las Vegas.

Since then, Alvarez has adapted his style and become a master evader, while moving up the weights.

He went on to win titles at middleweight, super-middle and light-heavyweight.

But the four-division champion has settled at the 168lb super-middleweight limit, where he holds the WBC and WBA belts.

He has his eye on the undisputed crown, and faces Billy Joe Saunders, the WBO holder in May, with plans to already challenge for Caleb Plant's IBF strap after.

It's really too bad 168 is such a vast wasteland. Save for Benavidez, maybe.

As "Canelo-hype-hater" as they come... but I know enough to realize Canelo can safely hunker down at 168 and none of the names on the horizon budge the "Excitement Meter."

Over 60,000 fans are gonna be in the stadium plus it's Cinco De Mayo time.
Stick a load of pissed up travellers into that stadium along with pissed up Mexicans who've all been starved of a big fight night due to lockdown and it's going right off 👊🏻

Expect some serious noise on May 8th in Texas

This is clearly gonna sell out in seconds when the general tickets are released.
They're even going against federal advice so I don't really get how they can be allowed to ram 60,000 fans into a stadium for roughly 6-7 hours, most of them pissed up and swerving their face masks?

Who the fucks in charge here...
Eddie Hearn or the US government?

    BJS is human trash.

Canelo is going to hurt him very badly.

Canelo just has to watch out for Saunder's kid swinging for his junk at the weigh in. That's the biggest threat to him.

Texas Governor threw the doors wide open a few weeks ago. Zero compacity restrictions, no mask mandates and left up to local venues, Counties etc. To them..it's all over. Promoters love no limits. Until the next surge. Made some happy made some pissed but Federal Gov can just 'suggest and request' reconsideration.

Looking forward to this fight, but remember guys these are both drug cheats.

I see BJS on the back foot all night and he needs the KO.

    Canelo could stop BJS.

Then BJS goes back to 160 searching for Eubank..lol

Canelo has all the boxes checked, stronger, skilled, durable, his backyard. Saunders should go for broke since he's got nothing to lose.
