Default The flip side to the George Floyd mess

No one should be above criticism.

Here's Rep. Maxine Waters' exact quote while waiting to hear the verdict from the George Floyd murder case...

“Well, we’ve got to stay on the street. And we’ve got to get more active. We’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.”

The key word here is "confrontational."

    con·fron·ta·tion·al

tending to deal with situations in an aggressive way; hostile or argumentative.

    "Aggresive" and "hostile."

Ok. You could maybe excuse a regular protester for saying something like that, out of frustration.

But public officials should be held to a higher standard.

Just as Donald Trump was rightfully criticized for inciting the mob that stormed the Capitol on January 6th..... so should Waters be censured for inciting violence while waiting for the verdict.

    Fair's fair.

Now you've got the usual cast of characters defending her on national television... and the predictable divisions continue. Not ONE Democrat or left-leaning figure with the balls to come out and say she was wrong.

    Then you've got this.....

    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/le...out&li=BBnb7Kz

"LeBron James explains deleted tweet about police shooting of Ma'Khia Bryant"

This stems from the fatal shooting of a 16-year old black girl at the hands of police in Ohio, which happened to occur on the same day as the reading of the Chauvin verdict.

    From the article:

On Wednesday afternoon, the Los Angeles Lakers star tweeted a photo that appeared to show the officer who was involved in the shooting of Bryant with the caption: "YOU'RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY."

Except that released footage of the incident shows 16-year old MaKhia Bryant in mid-swing with a knife in her hand, about to stab another young black girl.

In a split-second decision, the officer who shot Bryant may have very well saved the other girl's life.

This VERY CLEAR footage, painfully more obvious when played in slo-mo, may be the only thing that is keeping the anti-cop, rabid left extremists somewhat under control.

Yet LeBron James, whose other social initiatives I've applauded in the past.... clearly went totally overboard in his knee-jerk reaction, which as a Congressman clearly stated soon after.....

Backlash was swift, with Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., accusing the NBA champion of inciting violence against a police officer.

"This is disgraceful and dangerous," he said. "Is the NBA okay with this? Is Twitter?"

What all this means is that there are harmful elements on BOTH sides of the equation. The Maxine Waters and LeBron James of the world aren't doing the cause any favors by shooting their mouths off like this. All they're doing is perpetuating the problem... and in fact giving the other side cannon fodder with which to continue the hostilities.

Waiting to see whether the Bryant shooting reaction picks up any steam... because it would be shameful to flip everything on its head and now pretend that clearly aggressive people (even holding deadly weapons) OF ANY COLOR should be given a stern "talking to", basically rendering the police force powerless in doing their job.

As usual, we can't seem to get out of our own way....

Yeah, the Let Them Eat Cake crowd could never relate to that.

Oh wait, but if you ask them to wear a mask.....

One can also request just a judge hear the case and make a decision. In this case think of the jurors position. Let’s just say they consider a not guilty verdict. They live in the area and aware that shit will burn if they don’t convict. Mind you I’m not saying the dude is innocent. I wasn’t at the trial. I don’t think Maxine waters comments were helpful to the case, it is grounds for a possible appeal.
yes its a possible appeal for sure. He'll be guilty this time and next year it'll be appealed and he'll get off. A severed bloody pig's head was left at the house of a juror and shots were fired at National Guardsmen a mile from where Waters was calling for violence, a mere 20 minutes after her incitement. Words matter. She will be held accountable. Should be removed from Congress for sure. Funny thing is she's jeopardized her own position, and this case as well. The judge was very, VERY clear about the appeal potential. Maxine Waters, low IQ forever. Trump? Genius.
Well apparently it is fine when Dr Martin Luther King says it, it is fine but when Maxine Waters says it then "She will be held accountable".

It is laughable that the same people insisting the Trump's words were in no way responsible for the idiots storming the Capitol are now so self righteously insisting Walters be held accountable for something that did not even happen.

Nobody is comparing her to Martin Luther King but her words come from the same place, and that sense of frustration at the real injustice faced is nothing like the empty belly aching of spoilt White boys when Daddy Trump sold them all out.

No Maxine should get a pass. Trump called for a peaceful March but he got impeached over it. Obviously “peaceful” was a dog whistle to the white racist to attack. Maxines “confrontational” was a dog whistle for whatever supremacist to be peaceful. She already said she would take trump out, no one batted an eye. You guys gotta listen to the true intention not the words. Leave Maxine alone she is head of one of the most powerful committees and Nancy already said she isn’t going to do anything just let it go. You people don’t know how it works here in the US you got a lot to learn.

Trump mentioned fight, fighting and other forms of violent rhetoric in direct connection with Jamuary the sixth over two hundred and fifty times. He used the word "peaceful" exactly once, on the day of the attempted coup in the middle of a speech mentioning violent rhetoric dozens of times. The speeches immediately preceeding his were filled with violent rhetoric too:

And then the mob attacked congress :

The physical toll on officers who defended the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 attack by a pro-Trump mob is becoming clearer, with reports by police officials and federal prosecutors indicating that about 140 officers were injured, the head of the Capitol Police officers’ union said.

“I have officers who were not issued helmets prior to the attack who have sustained head injuries,” Gus Papathanasiou, union chairman, said in a statement Wednesday. “One officer has two cracked ribs and two smashed spinal discs and another was stabbed with a metal fence stake, to name some of the injuries."

    [...]

“I’ve talked to officers who have done two tours in Iraq who said this was scarier to them than their time in combat,” acting D.C. police chief Robert J. Contee III said at a news conference earlier this month.

All of the civil rights tactics were confrontational. It was a stupid choice of words though, easy to twist it into making it look like she's wanting to start violence.

I'm fine with kicking her out of congress though provided we can kick out all the Republicans who used far worse rhetoric. I'll settle with going back to the November election. There would be over a dozen GOP senators losing their office starting with Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee and a bunch of others. Well over a dozen probably. Got to be over a hundred congresscritters who either have worse rhetoric or signed up to a bunch of statements that contained far worse rhetoric. Only a handful of them even criticised the fucking Duck Dynasty insurrection attempt.

Not to mention the disgraced former president.
