Clever footwork, good power to gain his respect, decent speed, solid stamina and composure to stick to your game plan.

I can only see Artur Beterbiev and maybe Dmitry Bivol beat him at this point.

Canelo is very good, he has an excellent chin and solid fundamentals. His power has increased dramatically since *cough* his diet has changed.

Not the fastest fighter around, and he does have slow feet. A slick speedy boxer would be best suited to defeat him, with fast hands and feet ..... almost a perfect description of Floyd! Or Ray Leonard.

Canelo's greatest asset is his chin... a natural gift you don't train for. You either have it or you don't. His chin allows him the luxury of having opponents outdo him in every other category until they either wear down or make a mistake. How do you beat Canelo? Number one you make the fight on NEUTRAL TERMS. This means no weight advantages... no biased judging... no head games. You must come to grips with the fact you're not likely going to KO him with one punch to the head. You may not be able to KO him at all. Come prepared to outbox the crap out of him. Way to do this is to NOT have your mind cluttered with thoughts of "I have to knock him out to win." Totally doable.

I worked with a guy that sparred with Floyd for two fights; subsequently he sparred with Canelo before the fight with Floyd. In those days it was easy to at least be competitive with Canelo; he needed time to set and punch. So you pop off- two punches and move- before he could punch back. He had that issue at least until the Cotto fight, and I have seen video of how frustrated he would get in sparring when trying to deal with guys that would punch to set him, then move.
He has improved dramatically over time, but he also likes to fight guys that don't move much. To be fair, everybody hates to fight movers. But, if you want to beat Canelo, it is in crisp punches, never more than 2, then move. Pop a jab, feint, slide over right hand, then move and hook. Break his rhythm by using feints and short slide steps.
