Default Jermall Charlo v Juan Macias Montiel Showtime 6/19

Absolutely stacked weekend inbound with 4 cards all featuring certified headliners. Though Tbh all are heavily favored. None the less this weekend has a feel of a breakout for boxing that has been all bubbled up aka Covid. The rangy Montiel comes off destroying a returning James Kirkland and brings his 100 percent ko record into the chance of a lifetime with Charlo. This has the feel of a springboard showcase to a late year big fight for the champion and one he is need of.

Good undercard with Isaac Cruz Gonzalez 21-1-1 v Francisco Vargas 27-2-2 in a 135lb fight with the makings of a can't miss war that could steal the spotlight. Also Super bantams Angelo Leo 20-1 takes on Aaron Almeda 25-1. Probably catch this one on the big screen and try to fit in Inoue, Teofimo and Munguia where we can .

I did a thread about all of the upcoming fights. May & June were heavy- thanks for pointing out which ones around the corner. I think Charlo wins, but his ego makes me want to see Montiel take it.

Either way a great weekend coming up!

Pretty good fight into 8th. Like Alameda work rate and far more effect on them.

Leo takes the majority decision. 95-95..96-94..and some Vodka induced 98-92 for Leo.. Thought Alameda just edged it out.

Cruz pretty much dominated a leathered tough Vargas. Bit of a billygoat with his skull and huge cut on Vargas comes in 10th. Thing was flapping . Ref calls Doctor to check and then lobbies Doc with "are you sure..there's not much time left" . Seemed totally out of his lane making Arthur Mercante Jr look like an armature in that department. Near shut out on cards for Cruz.

Missed a bunch. But if this is the Charlo in with a Benavidez he gets battered down. Not the smartest approach swinging for the fences on literal face first Montiel who you can tell made his punches felt. Montiel on his chest all 12, low hands but awkward choppy shots and a beard made of fookin granite. He's gonna have to go up to 168. Charlo settled and boxed late but Montiel takes the championship rounds 11 and 12. This was not a clean shut out but fun scrap. Munguia may be on deck and he's reading this one.

Canelo Alvarez responds to Jermall Charlo's callout: 'I’m focused on Caleb Plant first'

WBC middleweight champion Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs), 31, of Lafayette, Louisiana, beat Juan Macias Montiel by unanimous decision in a fairly competitive fight on Saturday night in Texas.

Charlo wasted no time in calling out Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin after he survived a late scare to defeat his mandatory Montiel at the Toyota Center in Houston.

"160 is my weight division. I want to unify," Charlo said in his post-fight interview.

"I want to get Golovkin in the ring. I want to get Canelo out here to Houston."

Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs), 30, of Guadalajara, Mexico, arrived at Jalisco Stadium as a special guest for Julio Cesar Chavez's exhibition bout with Hector Camacho Jr on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old American doesn't have a targeted date for his next title defense though, but speaking after the fight in Guadalajara, Canelo says his time will come once he deals with his fellow countryman, a few months after his fight with Billy Joe Saunders.

“Jermall Charlo’s time is coming. I’m focused on Caleb Plant first,” Canelo said (via BoxingNews24).”It’s almost time for Jermall Charlo and Canelo Alvarez to fight."

Alvarez left Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions in November 2020 alleging a breach of contract, with Alvarez saying De La Hoya "doesn’t do anything in Golden Boy."

Promoter Eddie Hearn recently revealed he is confident that he can set up an undisputed clash with IBF super-middleweight champion Plant in New York this September after the Mexican signed a non-exclusive deal with Matchroom Boxing.

Hearn told The Daily Star: “Hopefully we will have a Canelo Alvarez undisputed fight on September 11 on the platform. It is hard to say but it is almost like a tribute to that date.

“We've been talking to DAZN about a number of ideas for around the first responders and stuff like that.

“We've spoken to MGM and they feel like it is to be looked at as a tribute to that date – a date when we can incorporate a number of activities to give those people the respect they deserve."
