Vasyl Lomachenko returns to the ring this weekend looking to bounce back from his shock defeat to Teofimo Lopez.

Lomachenko was widely regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport but was stunned by Lopez in October.

It was a humbling defeat for the Ukrainian who lost his WBA, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles.

Now, he’ll be eager to hit back when he faces Japan’s Masayoshi Nakatani in Las Vegas this weekend.

Nakatani has a record of 19 wins and one defeat, which also came against Lopez, and beat Felix Verdejo in last outing in December.

It should be another tough test for Lomachenko but he’ll be eager to put on a show and potentially set up a rematch with Lopez.

This 12-round lightweight bout will take place on Saturday, June 26 and is being held at the Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

The ring walks for Lomachenko v Nakatani are expected from 5am on Sunday morning UK time.

The night’s action will be shown on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action from 3am on Sunday morning.

Promoter Bob Arum believes Nakatani will give Lomachenko a tough test this weekend.

He said: “I mean look what he Nakatani did with Felix Verdejo [in his last fight] and he also gave Teofimo fits.

“No, Nakatani is real.

“I give Loma credit for, Loma would never take a tomato can or an easy fight.

“He wants the toughest fights.”
