Default Anyone watching Mike Tyson classics on ESPN ?

Just a reminder that Tyson was unbelievable in his prime .

Theyre showing his early bouts when at 18 he was knocking massive men spark out . his oppoents although journeymen seemed to have abit about them . They knew how to duck and dive and counter with some kind of form . Better than Mcbride anyway . Tyson was fighting every fortnight and looked brilliant .

I know achievment wise peope will say he cant compare to Ali etc but he was so good in his early years . The only two fighters in history that could live with that I O would be Lewis and maybe a prime Holmes . Ive never seen anyone more impressive than Tyson in his prime

No doubt that Tyson had explosive power and speed but look who he was fighting, Sammy Schaf. John alderson, these guys were hand picked to make Tyson look even more devastating. Jacobs and Cayton even admitted this in an interview, they had all the connections to find these stiffs.

I agree his early opponents were not the greatest, but that applies to most rising superstars on their way up.

Although watching a meek lamb getting slaughtered is often boring, it's fantastic way to admire teh technique of the rising star.

i watched that. amazing for his age. inhuman power in his punches, even at 19. he was fighting guys who stood 6' 4 and was still bullying them.

I know they were crap opponents but its the way Tyson went about beating them . Anyone can knock over stiffs but not in the manner Tyson did . The way he punched was amazing

Also saw the Bruno 1 fight for the first time in a while and was reminded of how inconsistant Richard Steel is .He deducted a point off Bruno without a warning in the first round for hitting Tyson as he turned . However he let Tyson take free shots at Bruno whilst he was on the floor AND let him land low blows without saying anything

That was Tyson's first fight after the Spinks blowout and Tyson had broken his hand in a street fight with bitch Green that previous summer. Thats the first fight without Rooney, and you could see Tyson's skill's slipping.
