And that's supposed to get a rise out of me? Damn... you crawl out from under your rock to say the most asinine things.
Verdejo got caught... is in jail... and his life and career are practically over. But before that... he never fit the checklist from the opening post. A fact lost on someone who DKSAB.
The wicked shall die by there own wickedness.
In boxing so easy to fall for the hype guy. Unlike other sports where they have to face all in their division.
If I may digress- I remember one standout in the NFL- Daunte Cullpepper -OG every commentator on how calm & smart he is. yet this big ass dude gets sacked by lone defenders 1/2 his size!
Back to topic, didn't see much on Ryan to question your position, so it appears another one exposed?!
Yikes! I guess I fell for the Bute hype...for a moment at least. I liked his body punching, but he either got exposed or provided a massive blueprint on defeating him.
One example comes to mind for me that I felt was a HYPE job from day one was a kid named jason litzau. American kid. I think..It was ESPN.
All they did was claim he was the coming of Rocky Marciano, Rocky Balboa all rollled into one!
At 5'10...I felt he was -as we call it now a weight bully and when he finally gets to fight a foe with power- or forced to move up. he would be exposed.
Had Jason won a title, I think a movie would have been in the works- via Tom Cruise
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
Adrian Broner was a worthy hype job that didnt get exposed as a flawed fighter rather exposed as too lazy to train hard, too arrogant to see he was damn good, but not great enough to be the champ many felt he could be _(edit) by emulating Floyd. He needed more than that.
As Tim Bradley said to Broner's face -man if I had your power, your speed....man....
All's lost! Everything's going to shit!
You make a good point about other sports, Slim. I can't think of another sport where a young-un is already wearing crowns and wanting to bypass years of coming up through the ranks to face ATG's in exhibitions. In other sports you have to EARN that kind of shat. I don't blame the fighters, as much as I blame everyone around them. Media... handlers... promoters... even the fans. Eager to anoint someone before their time because of a) their looks, b) their skills in the gym, c) their personality, d) their connections, or e) all of the above.
In the NFL (since you brought it up)... a #1 draft pick QB has one good game against a regular season opponent... nobody rushes to put crowns on the dude or compare him with the Bradys and Montanas of the world. Dude still has to EARN his accolades. Hype may precede reality to a point... but it quickly comes crashing down once the season begins.
I think it's generational. Many today can't be bothered with "process", "earning", or "growth." It all has to be NOW. Instant gratification. Takes a gargantuan amount of patience to put up with some of this shat.
