Default Crawford is BETTER than Mayweather.

I think so. Not much better, but just a shade better.

    What do you think?

Floyd was never an ATG at welterweight. His best performance came at the lower weights and he did not have to face a top fighter at this weight. So you could be right.

I love watching Crawford fight, but before you start comparing him with Floyd, he’s got to start beating some more relevant fighters.
Last night was great, but the choices this guy has made in management and promoters has probably negated him the right to be mentioned in such conversations.
Maybe he coulda beat everyone , but we’re never gonna know.

I’ve said this on another thread, but I just don’t see it.

I do get the point that he actually moved up in weight and all that, but (to me anyway) he is like a Buddy McGirt or a Winky Wright type - really good, tough, solid technician but doesn’t do anything spectacular in there or risk going balls out anytime.

I was never a Mayweather fan really, but I could see that he was an exceptional talent in there. I don’t see that with Crawford.

Admittedly, he has never really been troubled so he must be fucking good ….. but an ATG? Better than Mayweather? I get the feeling that I must be missing something as everyone else thinks differently?

If only Arum had afforded him the same stroke and big fight opportunities from day 1. I'll say I would much rather watch Bud fight but the comparisons are few and far between. Styles, temperament, backing and career trajectory. It's odd really Bud is a guy who didn't even fight a 10 rounder or main event a major card until what 26 or 27 years old? And he had to take that as a 3 day late substitute v Prescott. He really had to scratch and claw his way into the main stream conscious and that you have to respect big time. I said it a couple years ago and unfortunately it's playing out..Bob and Bud have really squandered his prime career and it feels in hindsight there will be a lot of woulda-coulda-shoulda when he looks back as he's now going on 35. Mayweather love him or hate him has a much superior list of opponents and I'd even say ring identity and certainty about him. You could see Crawford at times almost seemed bored in some of his defenses with the major showdowns missed. He got into some careless exchanges for the sake of excitement imo. But one thing he has that Floyd did not post Pretty Boy early run aside, Bud has that finishing mean streak. He can adjust with the best and once he downshifts he aims to build on his advantages and just beat you up. Ironically the big picture career path seemed to lack that same urgency regardless of where the fingers point promotion of fighter. He's just never cemented his identity and the clock is ticking.

Crawford is a brilliant fighter but when he's beaten the same calibre of fighter as Floyd has, only then can we begin to compare them.
Floyd win record wipes the floor with Crawford's.

    Castillo
    Corrales
    Gatti
    Judah
    De la Hoya
    Pacquiao
    Hatton
    Mosely
    Cotto
    Canelo
    Maidana
    Marquez
    Ortiz

Just to name a few 😉

He’s not better than the Pretty boy version.

The Money Mayweather version is debatable.

Castillo- YUP! Never cried like other fighters of his injuries, so he quietly/quickly took the rematch and proved his hands was muffed up.
    Corrales- 5'10 1/2 33-0 vs 5'8 24-0- Diego riding on a KO streak....got dropped over n over n over...
Gatti- Never seen a more accurate pot shot job -since RJJ Paz.
Judah- Last time Zab looked quick- as PBF knew...whether it -adjust and outscore
De la Hoya- Didnt fight him like Pac did...took Oscar at the weight oscar wanted.
Pacquiao- Great name, we all know way too late
    Hatton- 1st to stop him.
Mosely- Amazing display of adjustment and IQ
Cotto- Didnt run, stayed in the pocket, weather the storm
Canelo- How many guys get to fight 40+ and still be called green, what a joke, Floyd showed his IQ level again
Maidana- PBF took some hellatious skull shots, even a few rabbit punches- showed part II was anothe display of Ring IQ
Marquez- Never ever seen a P4P fighter reduced like JMM. Floyd gained more weight yet didnt fight a bully fight, still outboxed his foe- too easily
Ortiz- Ortiz didnt want no moe!!!

Just to name a few 😉
I guess those under age 35- never really saw how offensive Floyd was. He did what all ATG's do; fight hard & offensive in their youth & prime. Post prime stop fighting intuitively, rather depending on experience- remember what styles they employed with certain styles to win with knowledge as opposed to winning with physical skills alone. Each time he fought a taller fighter, he was never given the credit as the small guy- but I understand- it was his big mouth LOL!

Yeah, I remember after Corley lost a decision to Zab, Floyd moved UP and then went toe to toe- just beat that dude's butt round after round. His 1st title shot, Hernandez cut that ring off & forced Floyd to fight, no running, just adjusted and stopped a man who lost only once before.

As with guys like Azumah Nelson whose style waas aggressive, later became known as the Professor...to Bernard Hopkins who was 1st called The Terror fought with no holding clinching- then came RJJ, he adapted, and later in his years became more defensive minded, so, too did Floyd.

I also think that is why JMM was WAY MORE successful his later years then that of MAB or Morales- he mastered countering which IMO preserved his career. So Floyd's safety 1st style- we over the age of 35-40...remember When he changed/incorporated into his game a full fledged arsenal of offensive and defensive skills.

Crawford is in NO way comparable other than who was offered to both (under Arum).

Floyd's career 1st half was NO DIFFERENT than Bud's. No different than Pac- with Arum.
Floyd would make the GREATEST BUSINESS DECISION IN THE HISTORY OF SPORTS- He bought out his contract. Arum knew $750,000 wasn't a lot, but he knew based on what he had paid Floyd, he would've had to nearly empty his bank account- so I KNOW Arum was/is pissed to see a guy buy himself out- and then become a BILLIONAIRE WHO NOW OWNS THE LARGEST SKYCRAPER IN AMERICA...NOT DONALDICT TRUMP, NOT BILL GATES, A Hood brutha who invested into himself.

That is WHY Bud has a patethic resume. He bought onto Arum- when Bob had revealed how low down his game was/is- so I never blamed Bud for his lack of resume. He followed Tim Bradley -who allowed Bud to be his sparring partner- told him he is too good to be that. And what occurred then? Tim was called out for ducking- when all he did was refuse to fight his mandatory so he could join Arum...and he did and got Pacman and millions of dollars.
Bud was around then- saw that and felt blessed to get Top Rank.'
    Good decision, bad timing.

Crawford is in NO way comparable PBF. Maybe in five years...

Crawford is not BETTER than Mayweather at Welterweight yet.

Floyd beat a faded Sharmba Mitchell who was stopped and retired by Paul Williams and Zab Judah who had just lost to Baldomir.

When Floyd became the lineal welterweight champion beating Baldimor - he went up to light middle 3 times to beat (old) Oscar, Cotto and Canelo.

Floyd beat Hatton (overblown light welter), JMM (Floyd did not make the weight), Mosley (old but wobbled twice), Ortiz, Guerro, Maidana twice, Manny Pac (5 years too late) and Berto.

Floyd did not face Margarito, Paul Williams and Manny Pac at his peak.

Crawford has only 6 fights at the weight. He has beaten Horn, Benavidez, (old) Khan, Kavaliauskas, (old) Brook and Porter. Terence needs to face undefeated Spence and that will make his claim a lot stronger.

I dunno, I think saying Crawford is better than Mayweather at this point is kind of a knee-jerk reaction to a great fight fresh in our memory.

Hey... I'm just as excited as anyone that someone finally stopped "Bull-rush Porter" inside the distance.

But Crawford has been famously inactive against elite opposition... whereas Floyd's resume is littered with elite fighters.

Apples and oranges at this point.
