    No one cares anymore.

Unless it’s Connor Benn who wants a payday rather than fighting David A.

I think every Broner fight is a freedom fight at this point. He fights, makes money.... then acts the fool, gets locked up, fined or sued... then fights to make more money to stay out of jail, then acts the fool... and so on. Unfortunate when no one can make the point to you that you can be self destructive only so long before you succeed...
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Precisely. Boxing is Boner's personal ATM... and he plans to milk it for all it's worth.

"Adrien Broner Pulls Out Of Omar Figueroa Jr Fight Due To Mental Health Problems"

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the PC police, I gotta raise not one eyebrow... but a whole set of eyebrows to this.

There has to be at least a million one-liners that come to mind right now, but of course I don't want to seem "insensitive."

All I gotta say is, Adrien Broner... "mental health issues." I'll just let that marinate for a bit.

Are you f*cking kidding me?? REAL mental health issues is a real and serious issue, one that many people have to deal with. But at the same time it lends itself to claim abuse by any Joe, Dick and Harry who wants an easy bail on something. Of course, as soon as someone claims "mental health issues", no one will touch that with a 20-foot pole, lest they be accused of being insensitive to the poor soul. It's almost like the "Me Too" trend, where now even someone like George Foreman is being accused of sexual harassment for something that allegedly occurred sometime in the last millennium.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Broner doesn't have any mental health issues, other than those he's always had... which admittedly are quite many. IMO, he's just a buffoon who has overstayed his welcome in boxing way too long and needs to go back and reestablish himself somewhere else in life.

You can look through the previous threads and see the common theme about Broner- self destructive (a sign of mental illness). I don't disagree with your point- I think he has always had his form of mental illness which has led to some of the most erratic and frustrating behavior and that this is likely a similar version where he likely didn't train or lose the weight more than depression...etc. That being said, I'm not a doctor and not his doctor so that is speculation on my part.

Great points brought up prior to this announcement where Broner is fun to watch/entertaining and an ATM due to his outlandish behavior and ability to keep our attention. No matter what I hope the guy gets help and gets his act together/emotions under control- I'm skeptical that he will accept the need for help and do the work needed to get himself together, unfortunately. The bigger issue to me is the world we live in- we as a society say we are sympathetic to mental health but in reality we encourage self destructive behavior by rewarding those individuals with our money/attention while they are imploding and then ignoring them when they stop. Broner isn't the best example of this, but I feel he is an example of society rewarding self destructive behavior.

    Excellent take, as always.

You're dead on about society encouraging self-destructive behavior and then ignoring them when they stop. We can be cruel that way. I too, am skeptical about Broner accepting the help he obviously needs. To me though, it's his personality mixed in with whatever mental health issues he may have, along with a gigantic dose of misguided self-aggrandizing piled on top. Broner's one of those guys who I cringe to think about their life after boxing.

Sergey has stepped in against several people in the past at the last minute and does pretty well in that role. Broner definitely needs psychiatric support, and has been in denial for many years about it I think. Deeply entrenched and will be a life-changing experience once he can bring it to the surface

Omar Figueroa Jr. says he isn’t going to let the withdrawal of Adrien Broner dampen his performance this Saturday as he gets set to face late replacement opponent Sergey Lipinets in the main event of a Showtime Championship Boxing card.

Broner, a former four-division titleholder, announced early Monday that he was pulling out from the fight at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla., citing mental health issues. Figueroa (28-2-1, 19 knockouts) of Weslaco, Texas didn’t take too kindly to the late withdrawal, challenging Broner to show proof that he is seeking professional help for his mental health issues.

Look, maybe our little AB is growing up . Or maybe he had no intention of making weight, camp, thought he deserved more and sort of got dragged into yet another big fight slot when that fire just hasn't been burning for years now. His wording was interesting. About "I'm not going to play boxing". I don't pretend to climb into a fighters head, if it's all caught up and he's finally faced the darkness rather than blowing it off with antics, twitter tirades, booze, women and god knows what then I wish the man nothing but success and cleaning his slate. He's almost what 35 ?. It all catches up, no one is immune. But alot of this is on fans and what passes as boxing media or info-alleys now. The exposure is literally 24/7 and too many young fighters coming up now live like they always have to be "on". Was thinking about this the other day, like literally everyone has to be a character and immediate entertainer. They're preforming and playing the part before they hit the ring. We see guys literally billed and afforded main event spots on ppv for nothing more than having a big obnoxious mouth and talking shit on social media every couple of hours. Literally that's it. But Rolly Romero sold that circus v Tank and fans and flies alike flocked to it and ate it up. I think I'm running off of the rails here. Back to Broner it's just we all saw this train wreck coming loooong down the tracks. I remember during the Escobedo build up and his behavior and attitude. Missed weight twice, berated and cussed out announce crew live in interviews just like he did last week. Threatened to pull out day prior on and on ffs. The network basically bent over and made the crassness and gimmick all the rage in order to save it. Not to long later wasn't he there flushing hundred-dollar bills down the toilet. I feel like I'm describing the creation of Frankenstein. He has to know his conduct will follow and mental illness is not a default card thrown around. I gave Ryan Garcia stick and admittedly some of that was his age. But once you start talking mental illness your conduct says everything and reveals all. And should Broner come back and start barking again and the same anti professional fook it all schtick only to get yet another big payday...well, maybe the fans and network execs are the ones who need their heads checked.
