    Default Drug cheats in Boxing.

What sentence/Ban/fine would you give for anyone being caught in Boxing using PEDS?

    5 years minimum?
    Prison time?
    100k fine?

If you were in charge, what would you do?

    1. There needs to be unity between anti-doping agencies. You can't fail one agency test, pass another and be allowed to fight. If you fail a test, regardless of what agency conducted that test you are immediately suspended pending the conclusion of that agencies testing process. Any other anti-doping body should stand with the agency that conducted the test and basically stand down.

    2. Minimum four-year ban for upheld violations. A six-month ban is utterly pointless. Same with twelve months. These 'punishments' are nothing of the sort and more often fit into a boxer's schedule. Twelve-month ban? No problem. I was due a rest and it makes that minor surgery I've been putting off a no brainer. Two years is getting there. But if you want to punish cheats, drastically reduce their career or end them completely.

    3. Lifetime ban for a second upheld violation. No exceptions.

It is easy to say life bans and criminal prosecution for attempted murder for all failed drug tests.

Each case needs to be decided on its merits and facts.

If there are some mitigating reasons why it could be a lesser penalty such as a suspension and fine then it needs to be heard. This is a livelihood for professional and they should have the right of appeal.

Who said they wouldn't get heard or have a right of appeal? That happens now between returning "an adverse analytical finding" and the conclusion of the testing process and resultant decision. You either commit a violation or you don't. The same due process would apply for subsequent failed tests.

Genuine question. Can anyone name a single fighter who has had their career ended due to failed drug tests. I'm sure some have walked away in disgrace. But a single fighter that boxing has said no more.

Well... boxing is almost fed up with Jarrell "Big Baby" Miller.

But Miller swore and double swore (cross my heart and hope to die, pinky swear) that there won't be a 5th time... so boxing is holding off on forcing him to work at the neighborhood McDonald's for now.

Miller was going to prove to the world that he was clean wasn't he. What he actually did was go on to fail multiple further drug tests. Then! got welcomed into camp by another drug cheat Tyson Fury. I may be wrong, but I suspect "Dr Uz" was around that camp. Miller is now ranked 14th by the WBA. You can't make this shit up.

    Larry Olubamiwo

Larry Olubamiwo was banned from boxing for four years. Larry admitted to taking 13! types of PEDS over a six year period. Allegedly, Larry posted on body building forums quite openly about his PED use. Larry posted under his actual name. Larry turned up to a UKAD hearing with a sack of drugs which were confiscated. UKAD held onto these drugs and Larry successfully sued UKAD for not giving them back. Larry then grassed on another fighter who received a three year ban. Larry's ban was reduced to a year. Larry returned to boxing with no notable spell of absence on his record. He was employed post ban by Hearn, Hennesey, Sanigar, Hobson and others.

Thats how fucked up it is.

Yes I remember Larry posting here.

There was a Welsh trainer who got a lifetime ban for supplying roids to among other boxers, his own daughter. That is the only lifetime ban I can find.

    Mental really.

Jarrell Miller has hit out at his former co-promoter Eddie Hearn over his handling of Conor Benn’s positive drugs test.

Benn, who is promoted by Hearn, was supposed to face Chris Eubank Jr last weekend, but tested positive for banned substance clomifene.

As a result, the British Boxing Board of Control [BBBofC] put out a statement announcing they would prohibit the fight from taking place.

Despite this, Hearn and Eubank Jr’s promoter Kalle Sauerland attempted to force a U-turn over the next 24 hours.

They were ultimately unsuccessful, but Benn retains the backing of his promoter regardless.

Three-and-a-half years ago, Hearn co-promoted Miller heading into his fight against Anthony Joshua, who he also promotes to this day.

The American scored an unprecedented hat-trick of three failed VADA drugs tests announced within the space of three days – for GW1516, HGH and EPO.

As a result, the fight was scrapped, Hearn slammed Miller and the pair have not worked together since.

Following the Benn situation, Miller has spoken out on YouTube and said: “We’re doing a quick video on the biggest jackass that I know.

“This boy’s a hypocrite, Eddie Hearn let’s give him a round of applause…

“Let’s get right into the number one topic right now. Of course, Eddie Hearn and his new golden goose failing a drugs test.

“The ironic part about this whole thing is they’re fighting in the UK.

“UKAD and VADA are two different testing companies that they’ve been using.

“He failed doing the VADA protocol, now Eddie Hearn is saying they’re not gonna recognise VADA.

“Basically [being] a hypocrite and contradicting himself.

“They’re gonna uphold UKAD rules because he didn’t do anything wrong with UKAD. It’s so funny that this is the route he’s taking and the stance he’s taking on this situation.

“Of course with other fighters he’s thrown under the bus and especially me he threw under the bus crazy.”

Miller continued: “What makes it more funny is that Eddie Hearn’s really trying to dismiss it like it’s nothing when it’s his fighters.

“When it’s other fighters, he’s quick to say something about it.

“Eddie Hearn was more hurt about the AJ fight because of money.

“He didn’t matter for me because Eddie was my co-promoter, I had more than one promoter that I worked with.

“So it’s a lot easier and a lot cheaper for him to throw me under the bus and cut all ties with me than actually digging to the bottom of things and try to find a way to fight it.

“That’s the reason I was thrown under the bus.

“But Eddie we all know is a hypocrite.

“He’s worked with a tonne of fighters that have failed for worse than what I failed for.”

Serious post, I’m beginning to think that all the drugs Jarrell Miller has taken are giving him mental health problems.
How can he seriously try to justify anything after the amount of tests he’s failed. He is extremely deluded if he thinks anybody can respect him or take him seriously ever again.

Miller doesn't just 'take the cake' he steals the whole got'dam bakery ! His biggest career win is managing to get a professional license back rather than who he beat. Honestly reads more like a pitch to Eddie.

Several high-profile UFC fighters have been caught with the same drug as Benn in their system and faced pretty severe consequences for it.

Chael Sonnen was the first notable name to pop for the drug.

Back in 2014, ‘The American Gangster’ tested positive for Anastrozole and Clomiphene after his therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) was revoked ahead of his UFC 175 fight with Vitor Belfort.

Unlike most fighters, Sonnen openly admitted to using the drugs he tested positive for but stressed that he informed the relevant parties about what he was taking and why.

“They changed the ruling in Nevada. Earlier this year they did away with what’s known as TRT — Testosterone Replacement Therapy — in Nevada, and I was on that,” Sonnen said at the time.

“For the transition, I had to take a couple of things: one is called clomiphene and the other is called HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin).

“So, this is what we did. And I took my boards out of the water in the meantime, meaning I didn’t fight, I didn’t ask for a license. You had to wait to cross this bridge, if you will.

“In the interim, they did a test. I tested positive for these things, which I should have. I took them. They were in my system. That wasn’t a surprise.

“These aren’t anabolics, these aren’t steroids, these aren’t performance-enhancers. None of that stuff. But they have deemed that they are banned substances.”

Despite his explanation for the incident, Sonnen was banned for two years from MMA, was cut from the UFC and lost his job as an analyst for FOX Sports.

In 2017, after a lengthy hiatus from the sport, Brock Lesnar returned to MMA to take on Australian knockout artist Mark Hunt in an eagerly anticipated fight at UFC 200.

The WWE superstar picked up a unanimous decision win in what proved to be his final MMA fight. However, the result was later overturned to a no-contest when Lesnar returned a positive test for Clomiphene.

The 45-year-old was ultimately fined $250,000 and suspended from competition for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, although it’s believed that Lesnar never actually paid his fine.

Hunt subsequently launched a lawsuit against the UFC who he claims knew Lesnar was using performance-enhancing drugs ahead of their fight and that he is the victim of a breach of contract, unjust enrichment, battery and fraud.

The issue between the two parties is still ongoing.

Arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all time, Jon Jones, has also tested positive for the same drug as Benn.

Jones first clashed with his biggest rival, Daniel Cormier, at UFC 182 in 2015 where ‘Bones’ became the first man to take Cormier down – three times to be precise – and he won a unanimous decision.

It was later revealed that Jones had failed a drug test one month prior to the event, as he tested positive for cocaine. This resulted in a $25,000 fine but he was not suspended.

That came later, when he was meant to defend hist title against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, but he was suspended by UFC and stripped of his title ahead of UFC 187 after being involved with a hit-and-run incident where he crashed into a pregnant woman then fled the scene on foot.

Cormier stepped in and won the vacant light-heavyweight title and was then booked to rematch Jones at UFC 200 before their fight fell through just three days out from the event.

UFC boss Dana White had to inform Cormier that Jones had failed another drugs test and he was pulled from the fight, in upsetting scenes captured by the UFC Embedded cameras.

Jones tested positive for two banned substances: hydroxy-clomiphene and letrozole metabolite, both known to be anti-estrogens.

The 35-year-old was banned from competition for one year but has always maintained the substances in his system were a result of him taking ‘an off-brand Cialis’ which is used to treat erectile dysfunction.

Jones has had several more adverse findings in his drug tests since then, with one even leading to his rematch win over Cormier at UFC 214 being overturned to a no-contest.

However, he has not tested positive for clomiphene in years and is currently getting ready to fight for the first time since February 2020.

According to a report from The Times, UK Anti-Doping [UKAD] will launch a formal investigation after Benn returned an adverse finding for the fertility drug and he could face a four-year ban from boxing, double what any UFC fighter testing positive for Clomifene has previously received.

Without any unified front with the agencies as Memphis mentions, the sanctioning bodies and State/Global commissions you really are just left to playing a game of whack-a-mole with individual fighters. A comprehensive listing of banned substances is needed and rework this whole A and B sample crutch that is often used. Isn't that basically the same sample cut in half? There's a trend today where guys hardly even fight more than once a year so 6 months to a year suspension would be a nondeterrent. It's almost like a guy suffering a tko and being on medical suspension. Well some just pack a bag and travel to South America or elsewhere for more lax commissions and oversight. Guys like Miller should have never come close to the chances he's had. And on aside why is a guy who has never traveled coming back in of all places Argentina? And then Kazakhstan set for last week, but it was cancelled. It all comes back to a unified front and true reform and sadly that's the one thing in many different ways this sport has always lacked.

He's always been a little off when he gets going. Might be as basic as swiping back at Conor Benn who went in on him prior I believe.
