Well... this is certainly an intriguing fight. I like Teo as a fighter... but in this one I'm afraid I'm gonna be rooting for my local guy.

Seems to have the potential to be an extremely crowd-pleasing fight. One thing about Pedraza is he's got an impressive resume. This guy will fight anybody, as his record will attest. He does have the 4 losses, as sometimes he seems to come up just a bit short. I imagine Teo will be favored in this fight... but it seems like a hard one to predict for me. I'm happy to know it'll be on ESPN.

Good/solid fight- agree with everything you said. I give Teo credit, Pedraza is a tough fight for anyone. Pedraza reminds me of Jose Luis Castillo who had five losses while beating some top names in a stacked lightweight division and who also was a tough fight for anyone (including an undefeated Floyd). For some fighters the losses are “seasoning” and they help the fighters become true professionals. Freddie Pendleton, Castillo, Vince Philips, Keith Mullings, and Micky Ward are examples of guys who had losses but were solid fighters. This will be a good fight and great barometer/indicator for Teo at 140.

Castillo to me is the poster child of great fighters who gave us incredible fights, and paid zero attention to "maintaining a pretty record." The others on your list are good examples as well. I would add a guy like Ray Mercer in there, and while I'm at it how about Evander. Multiple losses on those guys' records... but it takes nothing away from their greatness. As you said, these guys used their losses to learn and become better for the next fight. None of these guys worried about the imagery that some of today's divas concern themselves with.

I was surprised by Teo's candidness here. It's not the norm for fighters to say that. That said, I think it'll be a hell of a fight. I like Teo, but he IS swimming in light welter waters now.

i see jose is getting blown out here. the undercard has a number of prospects on it
tiger johnson in his first eight rounder v once beaten mike o’han jr
jared anderson v competent journeyman jerry forrest
xander zayas v experienced alexis salazar
keyshawn davis v veteran juan carlos burgos
joe ward v once beaten frederic julan
unbeaten heavy damian knyba v emilio salas
bruce shu shu carrington v juan tapia
    jahi tucker v ivan pandzic

I disagree on the "blown out" part, but can definitely see José losing to Teo.

Of the others, I like Jared. He needs to continue his development, and should be a force to be reckoned with before too long.

I'm very high on local fighter Xander Zayas. Will be rooting for him to become champion at some point.

The rest I'm sort of unfamiliar with.

Looks like a good card on those three fights alone.

This should be a solid card. Lots of 'future boxing' in action. Lopez strikes me as not being satisfied where he's at. He has to know the rebuild to 140 dictates these types of fights and mentally he still has some steadying to do. And now being ordered to fight Sandor Martin can after Pedraza can only add to it and wouldn't be shocked to see him make some bad mistakes with Pedraza. He'll win, but if Pedraza remains anything, it's a sharp puncher completely comfortable and confident in his own skin. Teo needs to keep his head screwed on straight.

Ironic isn't it. wbc orders a fight and suddenly he gets the chance to come in on 2-3 week notice as replacement.

Have to give it to Top Rank. They know how to consistently keep on the build and top exposure of very solid prospects. What a stacked "undercard". The theory and hope is some of them eventually face off under the same promotion. Ironically, they still have the roots of network cable and cover all bases with apps as well. Just saying .

bruce 'shu shu' carrington is off the card, apparently his opponent failed the medicals. hopefully 'shu shu' can jump on the january fourteenth top rank card
