NEVER AGAIN Luis Alberto Lopez will not give Josh Warrington rematch and describes him as ‘very dirty fighter’ who ‘shouldn’t be allowed in boxing’
Josh Warrington will not be given the chance to win back his IBF featherweight world title from Luis Alberto Lopez.
Earlier this month, ‘The Leeds Warrior’ came up against Lopez as his mandatory challenger, but many expected Warrington would come through comfortably and move on to unification bouts.
It was not to be, however, as Warrington was beaten by yet another Mexican fighter, having suffered an upset loss against Mauricio Lara last year, and on this occasion it came in the form of a majority decision defeat against Lopez.
This loss scuppers Warrington’s plans to head over to the United States for a unification bout, as he no longer holds the IBF world title and it seems he will not get the chance to win it back.
“There is not a rematch clause,” Lopez told Izquierdazo Boxeo. “They had other plans, so didn’t put one.
“I told them to be careful because I like to ruin plans and you can see what happened.
“It’s an honour to show the British that Mexico rules in boxing.”
Despite there being no rematch clause, Lopez could voluntarily decide to give Warrington a shot at the title, but he has made it clear that won’t be happening either.
“No, I never would. He is a very dirty fighter,” Lopez said.
“He doesn’t deserve to be in pro boxing.
“With his fighting style, he can cause an accident to other boxers. He shouldn’t be allowed in boxing.”
This comes after Lopez suffered a cut over his left eye in the second round of the fight due to an accidental headbutt.
This is not the first time Warrington has accidentally headbutted an opponent either, as his rematch with Lara last year had to be stopped after round two due to a cut over the Mexican’s left eye.
With that being said, Warrington has other plans outside of Lopez anyway, as he has called for a fight with WBA featherweight champion and fellow Brit Leigh Wood.
