How are guys that seem to be the same size as me using these lighter gloves? As the weight of the glove decreases, doesn’t the size therefore also decrease?
There are different size gloves within the same weight category. In other words, they have small medium and large gloves in 12 ounce, 14 ounce, etc...You can order them from various manufacturers.
In Oklahoma City there was a very large heavyweight with huge hands. Once his hands were wrapped they would not fit into gloves so they had to be clipped. You know where the glove laces up? The sort of horse shoe shaped seam in the palm of your hand? A small snip there with a pair of scissors and you can gain more space.

I used 16 oz gloves for sparring no matter my weight since they're better for protection and most gyms require them anyway. Hand wraps help a lot with wrist support too.
