    Default Glove size/weight

I currently use 14 oz gloves to hit the heavy bag. I have average size hands for my size at 5’11” and 165 lbs. Some boxers seem to prefer using lighter gloves for bag work, as light as 10 or 12 oz. I’ve tried 10 and 12 but they’re too small for my hands. Am I missing something? How are guys that seem to be the same size as me using these lighter gloves? As the weight of the glove decreases, doesn’t the size therefore also decrease?

Do what feels comfortable for you and do not look at others. I wear 14 oz gloves and they look massive on me but makes the workout feel harder.

    Enjoy it.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, the 14 oz are definitely the right fit for me. I did enjoy hitting with the 10 and 12 oz, for the ability to throw faster combos, but ultimately those gloves were too tight on my hands.

I prefer 12oz gloves for hitting the bag, but 14oz are versatile, they work really well for drilling and even light sparring. Good choice.

There are different size gloves within the same weight category. In other words, they have small medium and large gloves in 12 ounce, 14 ounce, etc...You can order them from various manufacturers.
In Oklahoma City there was a very large heavyweight with huge hands. Once his hands were wrapped they would not fit into gloves so they had to be clipped. You know where the glove laces up? The sort of horse shoe shaped seam in the palm of your hand? A small snip there with a pair of scissors and you can gain more space.
