It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

The 2nd high-profile boxing ref to pass away in a very short time period. First Mills Lane... now Smoger. R.I.P., Steve.

If one guy had punched the head of the other fighter clean off as long as the headless body was still throwing punches Smoger would have let the fight continue. Smoger wouldn't have stopped the Holocaust.

    RIP Steve.

Lost another compliment to the sport. You saw Smoger, and you knew all concerned were in competent true professional hands. Probably the most 'calm cool and collected' 3rd man I've ever watched during a prize fight. No yelling, gimmicks or over the top overbearing antics. Also hard pressed to list off fights he waved that were deemed premature etc. I'm sure they're there but he always had a way of knowing when enough was enough and almost had a compassion for tko opponents. Fair to say that losing a certain class and era doesn't just pertain to generations of young fighters but the veteran officials too. Rest at peace Steve Smoger.
