Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney was arrested on a felony weapons charge Thursday in Los Angeles, according to police.

Haney, 24, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and released on $35,000 bond. An Aug. 3 municipal court date was set, online court records showed.

Haney was in the back seat when police conducted a traffic stop, Bill Haney, the boxer’s father, trainer and manager, told ESPN.

The elder Haney said the charge is “a misunderstanding that will be solved when Devin goes to court. It’s unfortunate that he was arrested with his armed licensed security, and I’m confident things are going to be worked out.”

Devin Haney's gun charge has now been dropped.

Boxing's undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO lightweight world champion was arrested last month and booked on a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

Police told TMZ that they initially pulled the car over due to a failure to use an indicator and an unsafe lane change.

However, Haney wasn't actually driving the vehicle.

The person who was driving then confirmed to police that there was a gun in the car.

Police searched the vehicle and indeed found a semi-automatic handgun under the driver's seat.

As nobody took ownership of the gun, Haney was arrested due to the fact that the car was registered to him.

He was released on $35,000 bail and set for a court hearing.

Devin's father/trainer Bill Haney told ESPN at the time: "It's a misunderstanding that will be solved when Devin goes to court."

Now, that is exactly what has happened.

The district attorney declined to proceed with the case after Haney appeared in court on Thursday.

"The case involving Devin Haney was declined on July 27 due to insufficient evidence," the DA's office confirmed to ESPN.

devin has been made champion emeritus so he can fight regis next. shakur & loma are the top two contenders for the wbc belt

Prograis will need to up his game
Work on cutting off that ring
Haney's going to cause him all kinds of hell if he don't

loma has apparently turned down the fight with shakur. isaac cruz & frank martin are next in line in the wbc rankings

Would this be for the interim WBC title?
Or has Haney vacated the title

it would probably be for the interim belt as who knows what's happening with the regis fight. the talk of devin v regis has gone pretty quite after devin wanted to move the date. the shakur v frank fight has been agreed to take place on espn

So Haney is no longer Champion Emeritus
Stevenson vs. Martin is a damn good fight
    Martin is my boi
But I don't see anyone beating Stevenson for a long while
That's not taking anything away from Martin
I just see Stevenson as elite

apparently frank martine has withdrawn himself from the shakur fight. unless he's fighting tank next, it's a bad look. edwin de los santos could step in to face shakur

Really disappointed with Martin and the pbc direction. Lots of rumor and claims...he has Tank lined up...James doesn't think he's ready etc. Who knows. But it's a confounding reality today that a 7 year pro about to turn 29 just inexplicably walks away from guaranteed title shot and million dollar payday. What an era.

And Haney vs Prograis great. But on PPV, not so great. Yet another one we'll be catching via bunk stream or not at all.
