Sunny Edwards has revealed he suffered a medial orbital fracture as he showed off his gruesome eye injury from his defeat to Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez.

The 27-year-old suffered the first defeat of his 21-fight career as he retired ahead of the ninth round in his world title unification bout.

Putting his IBF flyweight title on the line with the WBO strap also up for grabs, the British star came up short against his American opponent on Saturday night.

Edwards, whose eye began to swell from the second round, was inflicted to much punishment by his 23-year-old rival.

Bloodied and bruised, the Londoner was floored by a straight left at the end of the eighth round, but bravely got back to his feet to press on.

The bell almost immediately rung to signal the end of the round, with Edwards' team pulling him out of the contest for the sake of his health.

And taking to social media following his loss, Edwards shared an image of his swollen eye, as he praised Rodriguez over his dominant display.

Captioning his post on X, he said: "Left eye went in the second from a sharp jab.

"Was seeing double the majority of the fight. Enjoyed every moment of the event grateful to be a part of it all.

"@210bam congratulations & well done on a great performance, been boxing 18 years & it’s never been like that."

Commenting on what he injury he sustained, he added: "Medial orbital fracture.

"Sorry I couldn’t continue to the final bell, was genuinely worried about my eyesight."

Replying to a fan about being caught early in the bout, Edwards stated: "From the second I was seeing double out my left eye.

"I couldn’t gauge if he was in or out of range and I was getting caught at the edge of distance.

"Started throwing anytime I knew he was there, ended up getting me cut & then put down. Is what it is, got beaten by the better man."

A joyous Rodriguez praised Edwards in his post-fight interview, as he remarked: "A lot of people said my career was overrated, that I wasn’t that good, but now I showed what I can do.

“Edwards is a hell of a fighter, he was champion for a reason and tonight I managed to stop him.”

A fight where both guys come out with massive credit. Bam proving he is. “The Man” in that division. And Edwards showing bags of heart and proving that he was worthy of that type of fight.
He also showed what an absolute Gentleman he is.
Former Undisputed 4 belt Prediction champion. Still P4P and People’s Champion.

This was a really good fight
Rodriguez took over after the early rounds
Edwards fought hard, he just didn't have the power to keep Bam off him
Rodriguez is building a HOF record & only 23
I'd love to see him in with Estrada next year
