I am now of the opinion that Wilder deliberately priced himself out of the fight because he knew he would lose.
I think that AJ wanted to become undisputed and unified a number of the belts whilst Wilder made minor defences of his 1 title. Wilder knew the longer he waited the higher his purse would become for the undisputed.
AJ/Eddie would have paid almost anything for the fight but Wilder stalled and dithered.
Eventually Wilder took Fury, who he thought was an easier fight and the rest is history.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

I do believe that AJ has ducked Dubois for the rematch.
The offer is there from Triple D but a lot of excuses from Eddie that February is too soon, Joshua has injuries but wants the fight when in reality he is scared he will get blasted out again and lose the possibility of facing Fury.

I agree that Eddie doesn’t want the fight. But Eddie is a mercenary cunt, it’s his job. He wants to dust off the cash cow and get one last moneyspinner with Fury regardless of whether Fury wins or loses against Usyk.
And let’s be honest, Eddie doesn’t really care if Joshua beats Fury or not, he’s just looking for the cash out.
I don’t agree that Joshua is ducking it. He’s probably taking the sensible approach. Dust himself off , tweak a few things and most importantly, see if the desire is there.
Let’s be honest, he got beat up against Dubois. If he goes in there with nothing different, the same happens again.
I think Joshua has proved that he likes to try to avenge a loss.
Joshua is never gonna be classed as an ATG, he’s an OK Boxer. But more often than not, he tries to do the correct and honourable thing and I give him credit for that.

Little bit of a pattern with ol Deontay. You can say with a straight face that he priced himself out of a Ruiz fight too. And sounded quite proud of the fact. Funny how glaring case of contrasting classes and levels played out. Both now sit with 4 professional losses yet still Joshua is poised to enter another huge fight. Wilder simply never returned from the first two, nowhere close. He'll be an interesting case study down the road how to sabotage and cut short a career at the very top.
Don't worry, you're not alone.
Frankly, the whole "soap opera-ish" who ducked whom in Wilder vs Joshua back then is one of those eternal questions (like who killed JFK) where everyone will always claim inside information to back up their claim, while actually knowing nothing about both fighters' state of minds.
Wilder had no reason to duck Joshua at the time. He was undefeated, and possessed that eraser of a right hand. Joshua hadn't been beaten yet... but also hadn't been tagged by the likes of Wilder.
On the other hand, can't say for sure Joshua had a reason to duck Wilder. Little did he know he would later prove susceptible to the big blow. It's now happened to him more than once. Evander Holyfield he ain't.
I always maintained the whole show was sickening and frustrating to boxing fans... left comically bickering about who was ducking whom. That is... until Tyson Fury swooped in and saved the day (about the only thing I give him credit for).
Predictably, the ducking claims fall along nationalistic lines.
Let's compromise and say they ducked each other... how's that?
