  • Morel Gets Another Title Shot.

Eric “Little Hands of Steel” Morel of Puerto Rico will take his second chance at a world title in succession as he goes into battle against WBO super flyweight champion Fernando Montiel on July 16. Former champion More’ls last title tilt was ended by current WBA champion Martin Castillo, and Morel will not likely find any charity in the once-beaten Montiel who comes into the fight from an impressive knockout victory over previously undefeated Ivan Hernandez. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and as always, SaddoBoxing will bring you all the results as they happen.

  • Parra-Asloum Set.

Undefeated Venezuelan WBA flyweight champion Lorenzo Parra returns to action against another undefeated fighter in his next bout. Parra will defend his championship against Frenchman Brahim Asloum, whose record stands at eighteen wins against no defeats. As the European flyweight champion, Asloum has faced such names as Alexander Mahmutov, Noel Arambulet and Zolile Mbityi, and he faces one last stop along the Europeab road in defense of his title against Ivan Pozo before challenging Parra for world honors. As the champion waiting for his challenger, Parra stands at an impressive twenty-five wins with seventeen stoppages. He has beaten Yo Sam Choi and Eric Morel in recent years and those stoppages appear to have dried up momentarily as he logged a series of decisions in recent times. Parra will travel to France to fight Asloum and is yet to fight in the United States.

  • Alexander to Face Bladt.

British, European and WBU light middleweight champion Wayne Alexander will play a part in the coming week’s boxing excitement as he faces Christian Bladt of Denmark on June 4. Alexander is only one fight removed from his stunning one-punch stoppage of fellow British domestic contender Takaloo. Alexander’s current record stands at twenty-two wins agains two losses with seventeen stoppages to his name. Bladt has twenty-eight wins with four losses and a draw with only seven stoppages to his credit. Blaft has barely fought outside of Denmark and faces a huge puncher in Alexander. It is not the most significant fight of the weekend’s action, but it is a welcome action fight to compliment a weekend of MEN Arena action including Scott Harrison vs. Michael Brodie and Kostya Tszyu vs. Ricky Hatton.

  • This Week in Boxing.

Well fight fans, welcome back and I hope you had a great weekend. For those of you who were fortunate enough to see Jesus “El Matador” Chavez vs. Carlos “El Famoso” Hernandez, we can only hope that they decide to fight each other again, and soon. It was a classic and could have gone either way. Also, “J.C. Superstar Jr.,” is a big kid that oozes with talent, natural athletic ability, and seems to be headed in the right direction. The problem is how can he ever live up to his namesake? He seems like a nice kid, but good luck with that task. Enough of this my fellow fanatics, time to get onboard and fasten your seatbelts, as we take off on our journey through this week in boxing. (more…)

  • Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.: A Gift from a Fight God.

May 28, 2005. The Staples Center in Los Angeles, California was filled to the rafters with over twenty-thousand fans that were saying goodbye to a legend as Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. made his final walk to the ring, at least in California, and defeated “Mighty” Ivan Robinson over ten heats. Chavez, showing some flashes of his old self, completely dominated the fight, using his signature body attack and stiff straight right hand leads. He can still throw that left hook to the liver as good as anyone in the game can but it is just not the same punch anymore. “El Leon De Culiacan” put Robinson down with a powerful straight right hand lead and, for a second, it was a trip down memory lane as I could have sworn that I was watching that first memorable contest between Chavez and Meldrick Taylor. In that fight, in which Taylor was ahead on the scorecards, Julio would knock him out with two seconds left in the twelfth and final round. It was not really a one-punch knockout, as Meldrick really went down after taking a horrible beating for twelve rounds, but the final punch thrown was a straight right hand that landed flush, whipping Taylor’s head around. The long awaited clash between Scotland’s’ WBO Featherweight king Scott Harrison and Manchester’s Michael Brodie is almost upon us. Billed as ‘The Battle Of Britain’, this fight has been eagerly awaited for over a year now and in that time both fighters have changed dramatically.

Brodie put up a tremendous fight in his first battle with Injin Chi for the WBC championship last October but had to settle for a controversial draw. The Manchester man was stopped in 7during the rematch last April, ceding the WBC crown to the Korean brawler. (more…)

  • Hatton Speaks to His Fans.

It’s just a week or so away to the fight now and I thought a short message about me preparation would go down well.

Every time I have gone into training for each fight, I feel that I have improved and been getting better and better and none more so than this one. I’m stronger, fitter, faster, and smarter and I have made the weight easier than ever.

I feel more powerful, I have lifted considerably more weights than normal and I think I feel the way I do simply because my diet has been better. I’ve been able to eat like a pig and what a difference its made. (more…)

  • Chavez\’ Final Bow, or is it?

The final scores showed Chavez’s dominance. 100-88, 99-89, 99-89 were the statistics that told the story of his win over Ivan “Mighty” Robinson tonight in the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. However, it may not be the final time that Chavez laces up the gloves for a competitive event. Almost twenty-thousand fight fans jammed the Los Angeles arena to see the living legend Chavez in what was meant to be his “Adios” fight. One can imagine that if Chavez can make those kinds of numbers alongside great feature attractions such as Rafael Marquez and the Carlos Hernandez-Jesus Chavez fight, that it will not be out of the question for Chavez to continue for some time yet, especially against opponents as limited as Robinson.

  • Chavez Tops Hernandez!

Former super featherweight champions Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez proved why their fight deserved great attention this week by providing a thrilling contest which Chavez narrowly won by a split decision. In a back and forth battle, Chavez nicked the final score with a tally of 115-113 and 117-111 while the other judge had Hernandez winning by a score of 115-113. With the win, Chavez becomes the mandatory contender for WBC super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera’s title.

Stay tuned for the result of the Julio Cesar Chavez-Ivan Robinson fight coming soon.

  • Marquez Retains Over Vargas.

In one of the top attractions tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, IBF bantamweight champion of the world successfully defended his title for the fifth time by posting a win over game Ricardo Vargas. The final scores were as follows: 118-109, 116-111, 116-111.

Vargas, though defeated becomes only the third man to survive to the end of a fight with Marquez. Vargas’ record now falls to 37-11-3, while Marquez stands atop the bantamweight division with a sterling record of 34-3.

But it was Krasniqi that had the last laugh as he outclassed Whitaker and finally put an end to the big man’s misery with a crunching right hand in the sixth round. Krasniqi will now be installed as the number one contender for WBO heavyweight champion “Relentless” Lamon Brewster.
