Last night at the Holiday Inn, Smallbrook Queensway, Birmingham, Steve Spence won the vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight Title by stopping Andrew Patterson in the tenth and final round.

The four bout dinner show was the first promotion by trainer and former Cruiserweight Boxer - Tom Owens.

Andrew ‘Paddy’ Patterson (Birmingham) v Steve Spence (Scunthorpe)
10 x 3 Vacant British Masters Light-Middleweight Title

Patterson looked ‘mean’ and determined as he stood in the ring waiting for his chance at a Title. It looked a ‘cumbersome’ start from both men but as they settled in – Spence became the busier of the two and likeable ‘Paddy’ was starting to take a few too many headshots.

Spurred on by his wife’s shouts of encouragement and the chants of ‘Andy’ from the crowd – Patterson stepped it up in the sixth round. But Spence seemed to settle in more as the rounds notched up and after a number of headshots in the tenth round – Patterson, who was pressured back on the ropes, was struggling to get away from the Scunthorpe man. Referee Shaun Messer jumped in to stop the fight in 2 minutes 17 seconds of the tenth and final round.

Steve Spence wins the British Masters Light-Middleweight Title and improves to 3 wins (2 by KO) 25 losses (4 by KO) and 4 draws.

While disappointed Patterson’s record now stands at 5 wins (4 by KO) 35 losses (6 by KO) and 3 draws.

Sullivan Mason (Nuneaton) v Bheki Moyo (London)
4 x 3 Light-Middleweight Contest

Mason faced awkward Moyo. It was an untidy fight and Mason was warned for holding at the end of the third frame but keeps focussed to get the points win 40-37

Mason improves to 3 wins no losses, while Moyo drops to 45 losses (5 by KO)and 2 draws.

Sam Eggington (Stourbridge) v Charlie Thompson
4 x 3 Welterweight Contest

There were some heavy punches from Eggington during the fight and Thompson was wobbled by a headshot in the opening round. Both men were warned to ‘watch the heads’. Eggington persists with powerful punches but Thompson ‘picks it up’ in the third round. The fourth sees Eggington land a huge headshot and Thompson did well to remain upright. Ringside Judge - Shaun Messer scored it 39-37 in favour of Eggington.

Eggington notches up his second pro win on points while Thompson drops to 3 wins 3 losses (1 by KO) and 1 draw.

Tommy Langford (Birmingham) v Simone Lucas (Nottingham)
4 x 3 Middleweight Contest

Langford got the points win 40-37 against (not-so) ‘Lucky’ Lucas. Langford improves to 2 wins no losses while Lucas drops to 4 wins (1 by KO) 13 losses (4 by KO) 3 draws.
