weekend27 UK Weekend Roundup

It’s been a quiet Easter Weekend here in the U.K.

On Thursday, St Paul’s and Stevie Smith’s Boxing Academies promoted a dinner show billed as ‘United Boxing’ at the KC Sports Arena, Hull. The headliner saw local man Samir Mouneimne win his eight round Featherweight Contest when Ian Bailey of Slough was forced to retire on a cut in the seventh. The event also featured six fights on the undercard.

In Barnsley on Friday, local man Josh Warrington won the vacant British Masters Super-Bantamweight Title when Ashley Lane of Nottingham was forced to retire in the ninth.

The Carl Greaves promoted fight-night hosted six undercard fights.

And, Matchroom Sport hosted another big night of boxing on Saturday, this time at the Echo Arena, Liverpool. The headlining bouts (two of the four Title bouts) went to a draw. Liverpool’s Tony Bellew drew against South African Isaac Chilemba for the WBC Silver Light Heavyweight Title, while the much anticipated rematch between Derry Mathews and Anthony Crolla also went to a draw. Mathews of Liverpool and Crolla of Manchester were fighting for the vacant Commonwealth (British Empire) Lightweight Title.

Rocky Fielding of Warrington won the BBBofC English Super Middleweight Title – stopping Sheffield’s Wayne Reed in the sixth.

And James ‘Jazza’ Dickens won the vacant BBBofC English Super Bantamweight Title by outpointing Jon Fernandes of Southampton.

The Eddie Hearn / Matchroom promoted event featured six undercard contests.
