Boxing Round by Round: Jorge Arce - Hussein Hussein

By Adam Matson October 9th, 2005 All Boxing Results, Round by Round

The Jorge Arce - Hussein Hussein rematch took place last night in Las Vegas on the Corrales - Castillo 2 undercard. Just as in the main event, where the first contest between the two combatants had been a prolonged give and take war, the return affair was considerably shorter and decidedly one sided.

Round one: the round starts with the fighters meeting in the center of the ring and Arce slapping the jab out in front. The first minute consist of nothing but Arce throwing jabs that Hussein deflects. So far, it's a pretty timid start for Hussein, he lands in his first punch at the minute thirty mark, a straight right that is countered with an Arce straight right that downs Hussein. Hussein gets up and goes back to circling the ring without punching. With thirty seconds left, Arce lands a nice right uppercut to Hussein who is trapped against the ropes. Hussein gets off the ropes and the round closes, Hussein continues without throwing any punches at all.

Arce 10-8 10-8

Round two: the round starts much the same as the last round for the first twenty seconds. Hussein lands what I'm pretty sure is only his second punch of the fight, with a straight right to Arce's head. Arce has trapped Hussein several times on the ropes so far, half way through the round, but Hussein is doing nice in ducking Arce's combos, but he seems a little to comfortable against the ropes and at the forty five second mark is back on the topes and Arce lands several shots to the body, followed by a left hook that drops Hussein again. He gets up but the corner throws in the towel! UNBELEIVABLE!!!

Jorge Arce wins the interim WBC Flyweight title and improves to 41-3-1 (31). The man from Los Mochis, Mexico will face the winner of tomorrow's WBC title defense by Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in Tokyo against Daisuke Naito. Hussein Hussein drops to 28-3 (21) and the thirty year old from Sydney must now return to Australia and retool his offensive strategy if he is to once again make a run at genuine world honors.
