Junior had to say about himself, his upcoming fight and his world title prospects.

SaddoBoxing: Next up for you is Your British, Commonwealth and European title defence against IBO champion Colin Lynes. What do you think of Colin Lynes as a fighter?

Junior Witter: Colin Lynes is a good all round fighter with no real weaknesses in his armoury. He is a good boxer, with a lot of heart and a decent chin but he doesn’t sparkle.

SB: What do you think will happen in the fight?

JW: I expect Colin to come out fast and stick to his boxing; He will try to put the pressure on. But I’m going to come out and do what I’m famous for and hit him from every angle and get the job done in style.

SB: Colin Lynes has apparently labeled you as an old man, what is your reply?

JW: This old man is going to take him to school.

SB: Colin has had a couple of very close and questionable points wins in his last two fights. What are your feelings about this?

JW: It’s not going to go to points this time. He has had the controversial decisions in his last two fights in his own back yard. This time the judges won’t be needed.

SB: You have had fifteen knockouts in your last seventeen fights; will this be number sixteen?

JW: Definitely. I am going to come out with a bang.

SB: How has your training gone for this fight?

JW: Training has been brilliant. It’s been hard and exactly what I needed. The power is there, the speed is there and the accuracy is there. I am going to be much more impressive than last time.

SB: Looking forward, I hear that Floyd Mayweather could be in your near future. Have any discussions taken place regarding that fight?

JW: Mick Hennessy and John Ingle take care of that side of things. All I am thinking about now is Colin Lynes. He is a good fighter so I am not going to look past this fight.

SB: I remember watching your fight with Malcolm Melvin several years ago. I thought you were explosive and very impressive back then. Why do you think it has taken so long to get to this point? Do you think you have been avoided?

JW: Oh yes I remember that fight. Shortly after that I fought Zab Judah at late notice. The Judah fight rattled a few cages with promoters and since then I feel I have not been given the credit I deserve. I have definitely been avoided. I also don’t think Sports Network guided me the way they should have.

SB: Do you feel bitter about being avoided or is it just part of the business?

JW: Unfortunately it’s just a part of the business. You just have to get on with it and move things forward.

SB: Providing the Hatton v Maussa bout does go ahead, what do you think the outcome would be?

JW: There is nothing exceptional about Maussa at all. He has heart and a decent chin but his style doesn’t impress me at all. Hatton shouldn’t have any problems with him.

SB: I think that the general view is that Hatton will destroy Maussa although the WBA champ does have a puncher’s chance. What do you think?

JW: He is durable and fit but he just caught Vivian Harris on a terrible night. I expect Hatton to destroy him.

SB: You are probably tired of being asked about it but does Hatton figure in your future?

JW: Yes he will. It’s a question of whether he has the bottle. We could have fought any time. He can make the fight happen. So far he has chose to go elsewhere. I am ranked number three with the WBA and the IBF. He is fighting Carlos Maussa next for both of those titles so the fight will happen sometime.

SB: With Hatton signing with Derek Hobson you could get the fight on your turf with you being based in Sheffield. What are your thoughts on that?

JW: It doesn’t really make a difference where it happens I will fight him in Manchester or Sheffield or Bradford or anywhere. This will be the biggest fight Britain has seen for a long time. We could easily fill a football stadium. When we do I am going to go out there and do what I do best and show the public what it’s all about.

SB: And what can we expect to see from the Hitter over the next year or so?

JW: You can expect more devastating performances. I expect to be world champion this time next year. When Mick Hennessy and John Ingle put me in the ring with the World Champion, I will win.

SB: Thanks for taking the time out to speak with Saddoboxing.com. Good luck and I hope to speak with you soon.

JW: Thank you, Goodbye.
