One of the undercard attractions on Sports Network's super Scottish bill last night from Glasgow was Olympic Silver Medallist Amir Khan making his third professional outing. The Bolton Wonder met Walsall's Steve Gethin for a scheduled four rounder, looking to continue his fistic matriculation in the paid ranks.
Round One: Amir starts with a flashy left hook ala Roy Jones. Quickfire bursts from Khan, painting the static Gethin with some serious body punches. It's a really good opening round for Khan as the bell gives Gethin some relief.
Round: Khan 10-9
Round Two: Gethin is in seriously deep water here, as Khan is opening with lead right hooks. There's nothing Gethin can do as Khan unloads flurries upon him, five or six punches before Gethin knows what happened. At one point Khan gestures either to his corner or to Frank Warren with his right hand, possibly indicating damage.
Round: Khan 10-8
Fight: Khan 20-17
Round Three: Khan unloads flurry after flurry upon Gethin, forcing the referee to step in. Gethin isn't hurt but seriously out of his depth and Khan was hitting him as and when he pleased.
Amir Khan records a second round stoppage to go to 3-0 (2) while Steve Gethin falls further into the depths, losing the tenth of his last eleven bouts to go to 9-19-2 (5).
