Maloney Promotions are sorry to announce that the 5th of May contest between Jamie Moore and Matthew Macklin for the British light-middleweight title has had to be called off.
Jamie Moore has been suffering with a re-occurance of an old injury, a shoulder problem that has kept him from working or punching in the gym.
It is the same injury that he was suffering from when he took on Ossie Duran for the Commonwealth title and with this being the biggest fight in his career to date and with so much at stake Moore, his trainers and doctor were not willing to make the same mistake again as this fight will be the stepping stone to bigger fights for Moore.
The fight will be rescheduled for the end of June, beginning of July.
Moore admitted today "I am bitterly disappointed. It was a fight I wanted and I know it was a fight I would have won.
"I value being British champion and I was looking forward to the fight to prove to everyone who has doubted me and not given me much chance that they are barking up the wrong tree.
"Even though I am good friends with Macklin and we have trained together in various gyms around Manchester when we step in the ring I will be his governor.
"I hope to resume my training in ten to twelve days once I have been cleared by the specialist."
Maloney Promotions are hoping to announce another Championship fight for May 5th once they have finished conversations with all parties concerned.
