Dominick Guinn Wants In On Superfighter Boxing Tournament

ByBoxing Press 04/11/2006

The discussion regarding the upcoming Superfighter Tournament and its potential participants battling it out in a one-night eight-man heavyweight elimination tournament with the victor receiving a five million dollar grand prize has brought out various names that want to take a shot at the cash, and the former heavyweight contender Dominick Guinn is no different, come December 1st in Melbourne, Australia the “Southern Disaster’ would like to see his name added to the list of candidates going toe to toe for the big money prize.

“I think this heavyweight tournament is what we need to spark the division,” explains Guinn who dropped his last bout unanimously to Tony Thompson, “ If I won this tournament it would give me another boost in my career, and if I am given a chance to compete in this I will win, I am going to bring the five million dollars back because those guys can not beat me!”

Guinn believes the tournament is the answer to the negative outlook on the heavyweight division, “People say the heavyweight division is lacking and fallen off, well let’s put a tournament together just like they have in basketball and football, you win you stay you lose you go home, and the winner should be the heavyweight champion of the world, this is the kind of the thing we need, “ stated Guinn.

Like most fighters that has thrown their name in the hat for this tournament Guinn feels he has the right as any other fighter in the division to compete come December 1st, “You should give me a chance in this tournament, if you want to see the best and want some great fights then you need to consider adding me to the tournament,” explained Guinn, “You have Jameel McCline, so I think I need my chance and opportunity, what has Jameel done that I haven’t done, I’ve wanted to fight Jameel for a few years now so why not?”

All though Dominick’s name isn’t in the mix just yet he remains confident he will be called upon and is ready for a his shot, “I have been preparing Evander Holyfield for his upcoming fight as well as sparring various fighters, I have been hitting the gym hard since August so I am ready to go, I am ready for this tournament and you should give me a chance to win it all!”
