In front of 12,000 screaming fans in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, WBO Super Feather Champion Joan Guzman retained his title with a twelve round unanimous decision win over challenger Antonio Davis on Monday night.
The result was never in doubt as Davis was clearly out of his depth, having never fought anyone close to championship caliber before, but the American did trouble Guzman with his head and elbows, causing
considerable swelling to the eye of the champion and losing a point in the eight round.
Guzman, 27-0 (17), was the aggressor throughout the contest but could not stop Davis, 22-3 (11), and had to settle for a wide points decision victory via scores of 119-108 (twice) and 118-109.
