Danish Super Featherweight prospect Kim Poulsen returns to the ring in Oranienberg, Germany on May 12, and has sent out a defiant message to whoever he fights against stating, “I must win by all means.”
Poulsenʼs return comes less than a month since his disappointing points loss to Frenchman Tony Jourda, a decision which has galvanised the ʽGolden Boyʼ to make sure that the same mistake doesn’t happen again.
“I gave everything I had in me on the day, but if I fought Jourda again I would beat him easy,” said Poulsen. “I am a much better boxer than him, but I felt tight for some reason and couldnʼt get my boxing to flow, using my jab and so on. I really want to fight him again to show I am the better man, and that he just had a lucky day.”
Manager Henrik Risum also revealed that a rematch with Jourda could be on the cards but it is unlikely to happen until the fall.
“I want Kim to have a few more learning-fights after this coming fight on May 12, and then I think he will be ready to fight Jourda again in the fall, box him the right way, and show everybody that Tony got a lucky break last time”, Risum said.
Despite not knowing who he will face in Germany next Saturday, Poulsen, 3-1 (1), believes whoever he faces will provide a stern test and help erase the memory of the Jourda bout.
“I take one fight at the time, and now I am only focused on May 12,” he said. “I have been working hard with my trainer Brian Mathiasen who has a lot of experience. We are a very good team, me, my manager and my trainer. Brian is a great trainer, and I donʼt think you can get anyone better than him. He is the perfect trainer for me.”
