Boxing Result: Venegas Fights To A Draw With Soto Karass In Albuquerque

By Boxing Press May 29th, 2007 All Press Releases

Welterweight Gilbert Venegas traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico this past Friday and battled highly regarded tough veteran Jesus Soto Karass to a draw in an outstanding battle broadcast internationally on Telefutura’s Friday night boxing series, Solo Boxeo Tecate.

The high action, hard fought fight took place at the Isleta Casino Resort in front of a packed house of over 2,800 fight fans and is certainly a candidate for the Fight of the Year.

Said Venegas about the battle, “I was in great shape, mentally and physically for this bout. I had been in camp with Mike Arnaoutis for three weeks and then trained another three weeks for this fight.

Soto-Karass is a terrific fighter and I’d love to get a rematch with him, it would be a great fight to have in Chicago.”

Venegas, of East Moline, is promoted by Chicago’s 8 Count Productions. He was coming off a third round stoppage of New England prospect Ed Paredes on March 16 of this year. With the draw Venegas’ record moves to 10-4-3 (7KO’s).

Soto Karass, a Solo Boxeo favorite, participated in a “Fight of the Year 2006” candidate last year in Chicago with an 11th round stoppage of Michel Rosales last October. Living in Los Angeles,
Soto- Karass is a regular training partner of world champion Antonio Margarito. After the battle with Venegas, Soto Karass’ record stands at 16-3-3 (13KO’s)

Said Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions about Venegas, “I’ve been impressed by Gilbert since his fight two years ago with Henry Crawford. He was in great shape for this fight and truly proved he could compete at a very high level.

Soto-Karass fought a terrific battle with Rosales here in Chicago last October that our fans loved. Hopefully we can do the Venegas/Soto-Karass rematch here.”

The next action packed evening of world class professional boxing presented by
8 Count Productions, TEST OF COURAGE, takes place this Friday night, June 1st at Cicero Stadium. Tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 312-226-5800. For more information on this event please visit www.8countproductions.com
