Last night on a big Don King promotion at Madison Square Garden, Jameel McCline almost erased his nearly man status by dropping WBC Interim Champion Samuel Peter in the second and then twice more in the third but the towering New Yorker couldn't finish off the Nigerian Nightmare.
Peter, 29-1 (22), recovered to cautiously box his way through the rest of the fight, keeping McCline, 38-8-3 (23), at bay enroute to posting a 113-112, 115-111 and 115-110 unanimous decision victory.
On the undercard, ex-light middle world champions Daniel Santos, 31-3-1 (22), and Jose Rivera, 38-6-1 (24), tangled in an official eliminator for the WBA number one spot with Santos finishing off Rivera in the fourth.
There were three heavyweight attractions also on the bill, with four time world title challenger Andrew Golota, 40-6-1 (33), leading the way with a sixth round stoppage over Kevin McBride, 34-6-1 (29), Aussie Kali Meehan, 33-3 (27), stopped DaVarryl Williamson, 24-5 (20), in the sixth and Bermane Stiverne, 13-1 (13), rubbed out Edward Gutierrez, 15-5-1 (6), in the first round.
