SaddoBoxing Exclusive: Calzaghe Denies Hopkins’ Reported $8 Million Offer Was Made

According to media sources, Bernard Hopkins recently stated in an interview that Golden Boy Promotions has made an $8 million offer to Joe Calzaghe's promoter Frank Warren for Calzaghe to fight Hopkins in the United States on a Golden Boy promotion.

Earlier today, I contacted Calzaghe to inquire if the rumors were true and here is what the super middleweight champion had to say on the reports.

"If this is true, just tell me the time and date and I’ll be there!", said Joe. "I have spoken to Frank [Warren] and he assured me that he has received no such offer from Golden Boy."

Calzaghe even logged on to his computer during our conversation to see the article for himself, since neither he nor his camp had heard any such talk, either in person or through news sources, prior to my contacting him

After reviewing the article, Calzaghe said, "I question the authenticity of the article, considering the source it has come from and the fact Golden Boy themselves have not issued any press releases on the issue to back up the valid nature of the claims made in the media outlet's article"

After doubting the legitimacy of the reports, Calzaghe did have this to say. "I really do hope this fight comes off, because I want to beat the so called 'Legend'," he said.

"He [Hopkins] keeps talking about himself as a legend, but who has he beaten? All of his best wins are over smaller guys; Felix Trinidad, Oscar De La Hoya, Winky Wright...all smaller guys. He has lost to every good big guy he has ever fought.

"There is talk about me fighting Clinton Woods next, but the fight I really want is the Hopkins fight. After beating Mikkel Kessler, I want to go to America and show them what I am really about. I have never seen Bernard Hopkins in a great fight. I will make this a great fight"
