Boxing Result: Kevin Mitchell vs. Carl Johanneson

An intriguing matchup took place on the undercard of the David Haye vs. Enzo Maccarinelli bill in London last night featuring British Super Feather Champion Carl Johanneson and Commonwealth king Kevin Mitchell.

Johanneson looks very awkward next to the favourite, Kevin “Mighty” Mitchell, as they come out for the first round of this contest for the British and Commonwealth Super Featherweight titles.

The first half of the contest sees Mitchell the more confident of the two men but at round six, Johanneson takes control and Mitchell looks to be in trouble. In the final minute, a good left from Johanneson rattles Mitchell, who comes back with some shots – keen to redeem himself.

But Johanneson lands another powerful left and Mitchell is clearly affected by it. Johanneson knows itʼs the closing seconds of the round and he goes after Mitchell. The bell signals the end of the round and Mitchell looks relieved.

Mitchell seems to have recovered in round seven until another big right from Johanneson in the closing minute and another in the final seconds seem to sap the energy of Mitchell.

Mitchell slips at the start of round eight and immediately after Johanneson lands a left. Mitchell drops his hands in a taunting manner and Johanneson lands another left.

Midway through round nine and a good left hand from Mitchell followed by an uppercut snaps back the head of Johanneson. Mitchell is looking stronger this round and with exactly one minute to go, he lands a left hook and Johanneson falls to the canvas.

Johanneson continues but with half a minute of the frame to go, Mitchell lands a combination of shots and Referee Ian St. John steps in. Mitchell wins by TKO at 2:29 of round nine.

Kevin Mitchell is now the British and Commonwealth Super Feather Champion, improving to 26-0 (19), while Johanneson is now beltless and falls to 27-4 (19).
