Impact Boxing: Scott Miller Mullers Chris Mullen

By Boxing Press March 21st, 2008 All Press Releases

Welterweight Scott Miller of Impact Boxing pulled off his first professional victory on the road last night by overcoming local lad Chris Mullen on points at South Shieldsʼ Temple Park Leisure Centre.

In a contest of six two-minute rounds, both boxers played their part in producing the most scintillating bout of the evening.

Mullen, previously undefeated, tasted early success by stopping Miller in his tracks by wobbling him with a swinging right that connected with Millerʼs chin. Digging deep and showing true grit, Miller recovered quickly and continued pushing forward in his trademark mode.

In the second and third rounds, honours were just about even as both men tested the others defences and commitment with unremitting determination. By round four however, Mullen was beginning to fatigue and Miller began to dominate with his ruthless resolve.

Round five saw Miller push home his advantage in indomitable style and by now Mullen was faltering as he appeared to have no means to turn the tide back in his favour.

As the final stanza commenced, a now exhausted and disheartened Mullen fell easy prey to the relentless Miller and as a result met with the canvas on three occasions during the round.

Bizarrely, the referee elected not to count Mullen at any stage during the round but by the end of the contest, he had no option but to award the contest to Stokeʼs rising star.

Both men left the ring to a standing ovation and if proof were needed of the quality of Scottʼs performance, a number of Geordies congratulated Miller personally.

"Iʼm very pleased with my performance tonight," said Miller afterwards, "and itʼs testament to the coaching that Iʼve received from Impact since turning pro.

"It may have looked easy by the end but Chris [Mullen] is a tough fighter and he caused me a few problems early on. Iʼve said that I want to keep busy and tonight has made me hungrier than ever; I canʼt wait to get into the ring again soon."
