Boxing Preview: Jamie Moore vs. Matt Macklin

By Alex Strutt September 27th, 2006 All Boxing Previews

Two Forces Collide!

This weekend's clash between British Light Middleweight Champion Jamie Moore and challenger Matthew Macklin is probably the most anticipated domestic showdown in the UK for the last decade. Reason being as it's a true 50/50 contest that could go either way. For me, as a fan of boxing, and many others, that is what makes this fight so exciting. The fact that two boxers, who could very well be beaten, are willing to put it to the test, creating what if’s, doubts and maybe’s that capture the imagination of people who love the sport.

We have two truly tough individuals in Macklin and Moore battling it out for British Title glory.

The stage is set for the George Carnall Leisure Centre in Manchester on 29 September. With Macklin’s boxing ability, coupled with devastating power punches and Moore’s all-out aggressive southpaw power-punching style, this is a bout looking to end early...but who will fall?

What makes this contest even more interesting is the personal angle. Both fighters reside in Manchester and know and like each other, but as both camps say, this is business. More...

Junior "The Hitter" Witter has for many years been regarded as a tainted talent, originating from the world famous Ingle Gym in Sheffield, England. He has on occasion showed the makings of something special but at other times Witter has dwindled, generating bouts of criticism about his career.

Junior started out in 1997 with a draw against Cameron Raeside, but he continued his streak as a skilful fighter, rather than the puncher for which he is now known as, racking up wins mainly by unanimous decision. He got a chance to box for the lightly regarded WBF Light-Welterweight title which went his way when Junior stopped opponent Malcolm Melvin inside two rounds.

As Witter continued to build his respectable career with points wins and a few stoppages, his big chance came when the got the ultimate offer of a shot at the IBF title holder Zab "Super" Judah in 2000. More...

British Boxing: Analyzing The Future Of The Top Four Cruiserweights

By Alex Strutt September 12th, 2006 All Boxing Articles

Haye, Hobson, Maccarinelli and Nelson

With such a blank landscape in the heavyweight division above these individuals, the cruisers seem to be livening up with rivalries and points to prove to the world and domestic stage. These four men, David Haye, Mark Hobson, Enzo Maccarinelli and Johnny Nelson have paths that have intertwined and paths that have not; what is ahead for the top four in the country?

David Haye: European Champion

This dazzling star came from great amateur boxing roots, taking a Silver Medal at the Commonwealth Games, and has projected himself into the limelight of the pros with an impressive record that consists of 17 wins, 1 loss, with 16 of those wins coming by way of knockout.

As well as being a very talented individual in the ring, Haye is renowned for being a pretty boy and does not look as though he has even been near the ring. David has always impressed as a boxer with his silky skills and phenomenal power that has left 16 foes unable to continue after their encounter with him. More...
